The Uvalde Police Scandal
Wall Street Journal ^ | June 2, 2022 6:48 pm ET | Peggy Noonan

The great sin in what happened in Texas is that an 18-year-old with murder in his heart walked into a public school and shot to death 19 kids and two teachers. The great shock is what the police did—their incompetence on the scene and apparent lies afterward. This aspect has rocked the American people.

Uvalde wasn’t an “apparent law-enforcement failure.” It is the biggest law-enforcement scandal since George Floyd, and therefore one of the biggest in U.S. history. Children, some already shot, some not, were trapped in adjoining classrooms. As many as 19 cops were gathered in the hall just outside. The Washington Post timeline has the killer roaming the classrooms: “The attack went for so long, witnesses said, that the gunman had time to taunt his victims before killing them, even putting on songs that one student described to CNN as ‘I-want-people-to-die music.’ ”

Students inside were calling 911 and begging for help. The officers failed to move for almost an hour.

The commander on scene, school district police chief Pete Arredondo, hasn’t given a public statement on what went wrong. Why is he allowed not to tell the public what happened? He didn’t take reporters’ questions until cornered Wednesday by CNN’s Shimon Prokupecz. Mr. Arredondo was evasive. Reports he’s stiff-arming investigators are wrong, he said; he’s in touch with them and he’ll have more to say but not now. Then, in fatherly tones: “We’re not going to release anything. We have people in our community being buried. So we’re going to be respectful.”

A better form of respect would have been stopping the guy who left them grieving their dead children.

What I fear is a final report issued in six months or a year that will hit all the smarmy rhetorical notes—

A lot of sources, including the kids grandfather who drove him around, say the kid couldn't drive.
You go ahead and believe the ATF though sparky.

News flash:

Know your rights! Always ask for a lawyer before providing any statement to the police.

Only non-LEO’s are required to give a statement immediately after a crime has been committed. LEO’s have a cool down/emotional reset time before being “asked” to provide a statement of their actions. This is usually a minimum of 48 hours, and they are accompanied by a Union Lawyer.

That’s if they choose to cooperate. Please recall the Muslim cop who shot the white lady in Minneapolis.

There weren't 19 cowardly police officers there that day. Not a chance.

You think the police officers who waited outside to allow the killer teen to murder 19 children were brave do you?
Especially as in the end, it took a border patrol guy to go in and shoot the f**cker.
What is the police's department then? Making pathetic excuses?

The damn “demonRATS” helped him out. These Uvalde murders were not about ‘GUN VIOLENCE”. They were about the midterm elections and you can take that to the bank. The ‘RAT Party is the party of death.

I'm in Tulsa. June 1, some drug seeking scumbag shot four people in one of our local hospitals. The 911 call went out and 3 minutes later Tulsa PD were on the scene, closing in. The scumbag then shot himself.

True, a lot of police departments are cowardly bureaucrat bums. LAPD. NYPD. Portland. Seattle. San Fran. Etc.

But a lot of PDs take their responsibility very seriously. Catch 'em and bag 'em. Try 'em and fry 'em. Collect 'em and inject 'em. Etc.

And there will be more of these events closer to the elections. FEDGOV agencies will be busy for the next couple of months. Have to build the case for disarmament of the population.

That whole meme is incorrect and has been de-bunked for days-the shooter’s TDL photo was shown on the internet and on TV several times-and why would “neighbors” know whether he had one or not? He had a job and had worked there for plenty of time to save up for weapons to commit the crime he had been planning-for months, talked to some friends about it and also on social media-he was not living in a poor household-photos of the house show that-plus the grandfather’s expensive truck that was wrecked by the shooter-the whole situation stinks of stupid enough without debunked info...

Peggy used to write some pretty good speeches for President Reagan.

Didn't she write "a kinder, gentler nation" for the first Bush? Implying that Bush would be kinder than Reagan.

This all stinks. Take down on the 2A and federalize the cops will be the spin.

If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns.

He did have a TDL-whether fake or or real, it was shown on TV and on internet sites-he probably crashed the truck out of spite for his grandfather-maybe he was in a hurry to get started shooting-after all, I’m sure he knew he wasn’t going to be around to be accountable for that-or the truck...

You think the ATF wouldn’t be all over the FFL sellers if they didn’t dot all the I’s and cross all the T’s on these gun sales? That is the first effing thing the gun grabbers check.

Logic is not your strong suit.

"We have people in our community being buried."

If they are currently burying 19 people, that is at least one too few. I think everyone knows who I mean.

#4. CNN in particular no longer hides that this is exactly what they are doing, or that they hate being called out for it.

BINGO! Many more. Late abortions, as far as Democrats are concerned.
