The very simple fact is that Musk is from Africa, and is an American, hence “African-American.” Tan or other, he qualifies. Just as people who live on Whidby Island in WA are technically “Pacific Islanders.” Just as my kids, the product of me (a white Jewish guy born in NY) and my glow-in-the-dark white, Jewish wife (born and raised in Mexico) are “Hispanic.”
