President Donald Trump spent hours in front of a television at the White House watching the attack on the Capitol unfold on Jan. 6, 2021, ignoring pleas from staff, supporters and family to call off the rioters—and even at times encouraging them—according to testimony Thursday at a prime-time hearing of the House committee investigating the attack.
“The case against Donald Trump, in these hearings, is not made by witnesses who are his political enemies,” said Rep. Liz Cheney (R., Wyo.), the committee’s vice chair, at the close of the hearing, the eighth and last of the current series. “It is instead a series of confessions by Donald Trump’s own appointees, his own friends, his own campaign officials, people who worked for him for years, and his own family.”
In a series of messages on his Truth Social social-media network after the hearing, Mr. Trump challenged the testimony. He called Ms. Cheney, a longtime political foe, a “sanctimonious loser” and said the committee presented “so many lies and misrepresentations.”
In more than two hours of recorded and live testimony, led by Reps. Elaine Luria (D., Va.) and Adam Kinzinger (R., Ill.), the committee portrayed a president sitting idly by, watching the events on television as he contemplated his own fate, while aides, family members and security officials grew increasingly fearful and pleaded for him to take action to quell the violence.
That violence continued for 187 minutes between Mr. Trump’s speech at the Ellipse near the White House and the release of his video message asking protesters to go home.
The committee played a recording of an interview with an unnamed security official working at the White House on Jan. 6 who testified that the Secret Service detail for Mike Pence grew increasingly worried as the attack escalated in the afternoon

At 1 PM Congress convened. At 2:38, Trump told crowd to remain peaceful. Put out another 30 minutes later...again...peace...go home...
Unfortunately, there were throngs of people who were encompassed by the nasty folks present...and couldn't have left if they wanted to.

There were just two forcible entries into the building.
The guards opened the doors and let the other 99% of trespassers peacefully walk in.
As for confrontations outside the building, if the Capitol Police had simply practiced normal crowd control, the dozen or so paid agitators would have been quickly identified and neutralized.
Instead, the hopelessly outnumbered Police attacked as a unit, which instantly pumped crowd adrenaline to maximum.
Regarding Trump and Jan. 6, when Trump campaign tweet for his supporters to go home shortly after violence started had been removed by anti-Trump Twitter, I surmise that Trump wanted to get closer to the area to personally deliver the "go home" message to his supporters.

How exactly was Trump supposed to quell the riot? The J6 riots were a setup.
Throughout 2020, democrats rioted, looted and burned cities across America with the overt support of the media and elected democrat officials. Then a bunch of tourists think that the rules have changed and stroll through the open doors of the Capitol to take selfies in a “mostly peaceful protest.”
They were wrong. There are two sets of rules, one for liberals and one for conservatives.
That’s because you are an idiot. Trump warned them days beforehand that there could be issues. Pelosi was in control of the security in the Capitol and did absolutely nothing. If there was a riot, it was also completely within her purview to call up additional security. You think they don’t have fast-reaction forces on hand in the capital of the nation that couldn’t have been called out? Simple fact is that this situation was orchestrated by Pelosi for political gain. The whole “Jan 6th” committee is a communist\stalinist show trial as has been called out repeatedly by countless people in the media and outside of the media.

What could Trump have done? He offered Fed troops three times to Pelosi and the Mayor and was rebuffed.
The timeline showed the D.C. police had contacted Mayor Bowser about calling for troops. Bowser declined all of several recommendations from the chief of police.
Also on live TV on June 9, Kash Patel, chief of staff for the U.S. Department of Defense, said that intelligence information was the basis for contact between the chairman of the Joint Chiefs and Nancy Pelosi’s office and several more contacts with the Sargent at Arms for the House, all concerning the need for National Guard troops for Jan 6.
Patel also stated that Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller, Patel (himself), President Trump and Gen. Mark Milley were present at a Jan. 4, 2021, meeting in the White house. During that meeting the president authorized up to 20,000 National Guard troops for the protest march Jan. 6.
