MADRID - Spanish prosecutors said on Friday that they will ask a court to sentence Colombian pop star Shakira to 8 years and 2 months in prison if found guilty in the upcoming trial for alleged tax evasion.

Shakira, whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, is accused of not paying the Spanish government 14.5 million euros (15 million dollars) in taxes between 2012 and 2014.

The prosecutors said that they will also ask for a 24 million euro (24 million dollar) fine.

The accusation details six charges against Shakira. This week, the singer rejected an agreement the prosecutors offered and chose to go to trial, the date of which has not yet been set.

Shakira's public-relations team declared that the singer has always fulfilled her fiscal obligations. It says that the artist has deposited the quoted amount she owes, including 3 million euros in interest.

The Barcelona prosecutors have alleged that the Grammy winner spent over half of each year between 2012 and 2014 in Spain and should have paid taxes in the country.

Shakira recently ended an 11-year relationship with FC Barcelona [soccer] star Gerard Piqué, with whom she has two children. The family used to live in Barcelona.

There are videos of Shakira as a young woman. One would think young Shakira and Shakira of today are two completely different persons.

Friend of Obama and Biden. Loves “Build Back Better”. Why isn’t she eager to pay even more taxes than what is asked? Strange.

There are two things. First, the wealthy have more than enough money to pay their taxes, with a whole lot left for their luxury-filled lives, so their bank accounts don’t hurt at all as it does for us in the middle class. Second, the wealthy can hire the best tax attorneys and accountants money can buy to scour the gargantuan U.S. tax code and find every little loophole that will give their clients a tax break, while we in the middle class have to settle for H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt.

“The prosecutors said that they will also ask for a 24 million euro (24 million dollar) fine.” That is punishment enough, and she is definitely not guilty. Real eye candy.

She is 45 years old now. Well within my ‘half your age plus 7’ range.

Ayeee!

Have those Spanish prosecutors no sense of right and wrong?

Her early music was much better before she went pop.
