Hurricane Ian
NHC/NOAA ^ | 23 September 2022 | NHC/NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2022 2:32:24 AM PDT by NautiNurse

The late-blooming 2022 Atlantic Tropical Storm season is making up for lost time. A tropical system has developed in the Central Caribbean Sea. This storm system is forecast to threaten continental U.S. interests next week. While the tropical wave passed south of a key geographic area known as Hebert's Box #1, it will very likely pass through Hebert's Box #2. These boxes are useful as predictors of hurricanes that will strike South Florida. For more information about Hebert's Boxes, see Hebert Box. See graphic below which illustrated the Hebert's Boxes.

Our son in Tampa/Clearwater area texted he lost power late yesterday, and went to a friend's place who still had it. He moved back in just before midnight when they regained power. He still has no internet.

He reports all is good for him, but waiting to find out if his work has regained both power and connectivity.

He's only been in Florida for a year and a half. We visited him last Spring.

The feel-good story in the midst of all the pain - Hemingway’s 6-toed cats are safe and accounted for in Key West. The mansion sustained some wind damage, but kitties are OK.

While doing yard cleanup watch out for snakes that got relocated, and of course sharks.

I’d bet it’s down to various political whores with their hands in the pockets of insurance companies who’d otherwise take a massive hit over Cat 5 declarations.

Large tree limbs require Paul Bunyan behavior.

Was watching the Key West webcams last night just before midnight as Ian was passing by outside of Sloppy Joe's. You could see some minor flooding and blasts of wind but people were still boozing and carousing. Walking around, driving, walking their bikes etc.

Life in the Conch Republic goes on as usual.

We were in the Keys and Key West in April of 2021. The drive is quite spectacular, and we look forward to visiting again. Love the chickens roaming wild everywhere.

Make an annual visit to Key West every January / February. I could do without the chickens!

Grandstanding sheriff spounted off about “hundreds dead” based on 911 calls received, no actual investigation or checks on those individuals yet.

Typical hurricane reporting.

Yes, that is hard to not have those conveniences that are almost necessities these days. Tree limbs can be very heavy. We have a rather large one that toppled here from a recent storm, and fortunately it landed in the side yard where we don’t have to walk very often. We will need to use a chainsaw to break it down into smaller pieces that I can carry. It’s great that you have your power! I’m sure your neighbor is happy to trade for that. Neighbors sure can come in handy when the chips are down.
