Well, those of us who heard Biden and Nuland threaten the pipeline immediately thought of THEM. It makes no sense for Putin to destroy the pipeline - it is one of his main bargaining chips. If he wants to stop the flow of gas, he can order the valves shut, not blow up the pipes.

Why blow up their own pipelines when they can just cut off the fuel? As a last, desperate act of an autocrat maybe I can see the angle but he doesn’t seem to be in such dire straits at the moment.

I still suspect that some party who thought that this coming winter without enough gas might fracture the alliance against Russia. For example if Germany doesn’t have enough to heat homes and power industry they might bolt or face public pressure. So blasting holes in the pipleline gives them no reason to weaken their stance.
