Florida man, 37 attempted to enter the Ruth N. Upson Elementary School in Jacksonville carrying a large axe and ended up getting shot.
At around 2:48 p.m. the suspect approached the entrance to the school armed with a large axe and the school staff followed procedure and did what they were supposed to do. The school was put into lockdown, the Duval County Schools Police Department was notified, and the school staff kept the man from entering the school. A school safety officer stayed on campus but kept an eye on the suspect as he left the school.
Bruce Perkins was waiting for his daughter to get out of school. He said, “He had an axe and he was swinging at parents right in front of the school.”
The suspect finally left, and as he started walking down the street following a couple towards a church, and as he neared the church, he was confronted by Duval County school police officers near Dancy Street. The man was ordered to drop the weapon repeatedly but did not comply. The suspect was shot at least once and is in the hospital in critical condition.
Duval County Schools Superintendent Diana Greene stated the school staff followed their training and kept all the students safe.
The school lockdown was lifted, and parents were advised of all’s well by the school.
The suspect has been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and trespass on school property with a firearm or other weapon.
His bond was set at $110,009, according to sheriff’s office records.
Because NO ONE was INJURED except for the PERP.
He was swinging the axe at parents and had to be shot as a deadly threat. Maybe he was yelling, "I'm not going to kill you. I'm just swinging it for effect!"
Sound like he had an ax to grind with someone.

So far they’ve given up the age and name of the perp. Lots of details on the criminal background of the perp.
But no picture of the perp. I wonder why they are sharing a photo of the perp. Hmmm....
