SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – David DePape, arrested after allegedly breaking into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's home and attacking her husband, pleaded not guilty in his first court appearance Tuesday. The judge ordered him to be held in jail without bail.
District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced she was charging DePape with attempted murder, residential burglary, assault, elder abuse and threatening a public official, charges that could put him in prison for 13 years to life.
Before his arraignment Tuesday afternoon, DePape had been transferred to county jail Tuesday after being released from San Francisco General Hospital. DePape had been in the hospital psychiatric ward under heavy guard following the attack.

Mr. Pelosi and two policemen were there. They saw it, well Mr. Pelosi also felt it. So how can this guy say he didn’t do it?
He could claim self defense. Or by reason of insanity.
Discovery is going to be very interesting, he is entitled to all evidence (especially exculpatory), videotapes, audio recordings, etc.
I hope he has a competent attorney or a famous pro bono one.

No, of course I don’t believe everything about the story. But we do know the two policemen were there. The policemen said he used the hammer.
If it could not be established that the intruder was invited or not then the police would have to arrest him for breaking and entering.

He can say he didn’t do it in regards to the charges against him. Maybe he didn’t do what he is being charged with.
The nutcase has no chance. He will never be believed and he will be tossed in the dungeon until he dies.

But if it did the FBI would investigate and then argue their findings should not be released for 66.6 years
The flip side seems to be that the police are going to lie their asses off for the Pelosis, so I’m not sure what difference his telling makes.
Probably a defense tactic to get him into a mental institution instead of San Question or Folsom prisons.
Yes, there is that. I think he (or his lawyer) can get their hands on the evidence right away in order to have time to prepare for a trial. Tick-tock goes the clock, the race is on.
So far we don’t actually know who the nutcase actually is? No mug shot so far. The only pics I’ve seen that are supposed to be him don’t match. So if somebody dies in custody who’ll know?. And san francisco will freeze over before Nanzi releases any video.
