Republicans should have won the Senate easily, but they nominated really bad candidates
Washington Examiner ^ | November 9, 2022 | Timothy P. Carney

There’s a lot of noise as these midterm results flow in, and a few unsettled races at the moment, but this much is clear: Republicans would control the Senate next year had they stuck to nominating good candidates. Instead, typical of the Tea Party-to-Trump Era, Republicans in many key states nominated people who were patently unfit for office.

It goes back to the Massie Theorem. Rep. Thomas Massie explained the Tea Party after the 2016 election.

"All this time," Massie said, "I thought they were voting for libertarian Republicans. But after some soul-searching, I realized when they voted for Rand and Ron and me in these primaries, they weren't voting for libertarian ideas. They were voting for the craziest son of a b**** in the race. And Donald Trump won best in class.”

Nominating the craziest son of a b**** in the race is not a formula for winning governing majorities.

Here’s the raw math:

Republicans, as of 5 a.m. Wednesday, control 48 seats in the Senate, with four states outstanding. (Technically, Alaska is still outstanding, but it is undecided between two Republican candidates.) Republican Ron Johnson will probably win reelection in Wisconsin. That means the GOP would need to win two of the final three races — outstanding contests in Nevada and Arizona, and a likely runoff in Georgia — to control the Senate. So, the odds are decent that Republicans end up with 49 or 50 seats, which is 1 or 2 seats short of Senate control.

Republicans should have won the Georgia Senate race easily this year. They also should have won Pennsylvania.

In Georgia, former NFL running back Herschel Walker will get about 48% or 49% as Gov. Brian Kemp gets about 54%.

Nope. Play attention. Every single Republican running statewide had an easy win in Georgia yesterday except Walker. That’s a candidate problem. And maybe a “Trump candidate” problem

Kemp and Rattenspewer spit in their voters' faces.

There would be NO way I would have voted for Kemp, much less Rattenspewer.

Walker? Easily.

We will see where the rigging took place in Georgia, after the numbers come out.

Bullsh*t.

I listened to as many of these candidates speak as I could manage. Appearance policy & content-wise, this was the best crop I can remember.

Relying on the fruit and nut wing of your party to pull candidates over the line is a very risky and sometimes fatal strategy.

Right. If this theory is valid, Fetterman was a better candidate than Oz. Someone will have to explain to me why a gibbering been-nowhere/done-nothing nobody who wants to set free all the murderers in prison is a better candidate than a reasonable pragmatic physician with some actual solutions to real problems.

TigerClaws TAKEAWAY

Democrats have figured out
<><> Americans are more easily convinced to vote on social than economic issues
<><> it’s easier to play on people’s emotions rather than appeal to their intelligence.

It’s time for a young man. We have too many old people running countries (Biden, Putin, etc.)

Pray tell. What in the hell is the difference between Pennsylvania’s apparent election of a frigging vegetable and Herschel Walker ousting a pimp preacher in $2000 suits from Ebenezer Baptist Church?

Regardless, Democrats are going to have to find about 80K votes to keep Warnock in that seat because the Libertarian candidate won’t be in the runoff. It all depends on how SoS Raffensperger reacts now and does like he said - fair elections....

It’s gonna be tight. If Raffy doesn’t measure up his run for Governor after Kemp is dead, IMO.

Another smear against anyone in favor of populist candidates. IOWords, if to the right of a RINO YOU are stupid to have nominated them.

I repeat, any election that allows any version of mailin or ballot harvesting cannot be honest. I’ve registered once out here in CaCaLand, >35 years ago. But, since mailin is mandated out here, I got two ballots.

How many other “errors” do you think occurred?

Kari Lake is a better candidate than Masters. And Mark Kelly is a better candidate than Hobbs - extremely dishonest, but that works for Democrats. If Lake survives to win - Please God! - it will be due to her ability to speak and think on her feet. Trump was a big drag on the AZ ticket this year.

I assert a reason that access is blocked to paper and image ballots for audits is that the embedded microcode will not match with scanned information.

Remember that we never got hold of the 2020 Fulton County ballots.

Because "reasons".

I thought Walker was going to be a bad candidate but he sounded fantastic in the interviews I heard. Certainly far more electable than that brain damaged clown in PA. It’s galling that Trump is sitting on $100 million in cash and didn’t spend any of that cash smashing Warnock into little pieces.

B.S.

The voters are too stupid to elect good people. Look at the Fetterman victory.

Tony Deluca, candidate for state House in PA, died a month ago. He was re-elected yesterday.

Don’t blame the candidates for the idiocy of the electorate.

Why don’t YOU run for office if you don’t like the candidates?

Keep in mind, throughout the world, voters have elected socialist/tyrannical morons who destroy their countries and cannot be kicked out.

I believe only those who own real estate should have the right to vote. They have something valuable and a lot to lose. The masses are quick to vote for anyone offering a handout and don’t have any skin in the game to lose. They pay little or nothing in taxes.

They don’t have much incentive to make a responsible choice.

TBO after what happened in pa. During the 2020 presidential election I never believed Oz would prevail anyway......anyone who did was being really optimistic.

Brandon and fettetman were warning it could take days to decide that election and somehow miraculously they were able to decide it over night?

Unbelievable
