Look at the positive side, these losses are all tax writeoffs. But then the woke Target leaders would conclude they arent paying their FAIR share. Cant win.
NO-—LOCAL POLITICIANS have the problem...they refuse to attack crime.
I do not care WHAT your employable skills are-—
IF you have to apply for a job in a heavy crime area, you will think 2-3 times before doing so.
Companies cannot afford to operate in high crime areas.
I would have told those ‘leaders’ FINE-—we will not open anything new-—and we will see about closing the ones we still have.
Then attend a city council meeting with facts & figures and get a local ‘investigative reporter’ involved.
The cost of doing business these days in certain areas. Target will eventually have to leave areas that get too painful to stay in. It could probably cut that loss in half just by leaving parts of California, Illinois and NY but they must still be making enough money to justify staying. And they know where those areas are. Embrace the suck until you can’t, Target.
Walgreen should have just said “OK” to that and closed it

During the riots, Target brushed off the loss of a burning store, by saying the cost to replace the structure wasn’t material. This while smaller businesses all around it were losing years of equity and could never hope to recover.

I entered a store in the Chicago MDW airport last week. Had to put my credit card in the turnstile to enter. I picked up a few things and looked for the register. There wasn’t one. The lady said that it is scanned by cameras everywhere in the store, and when I leave with those items, that my card is charged. I did. To get the receipt, I had to log my email. I did. Got it a few minutes later.
Will the big retailers go this route? Probably.
Maybe not Walmart. They only have one cashier, already.

Grocery store near me has a “wall of shame” at the checkout aisles with blown up screenshots from the security cameras of all the shoplifters.
That is how it works in the downtown area of my Seattle suburb.
I live within easy walking distance of a Safeway and a QFC (upscale Kroger) food store.
Both stores are behaving like they plan to close. They have part time new people for almost every job now.
Almost all the older top scale union employees are gone.
I cannot believe I may have to pay for grocery delivery in the near future!
