To my Republican friends: the only proposal you should be considering on Social Security & Medicare is ending mass unskilled migration in order to protect these programs for American Seniors who paid into them and depend on them. Ryanism is on the ash heap—leave it there forever.

Want to cut spending? Slash the corrupt woke bureaucracy, stop paying people not to work, punish fraud, curb military adventurism. Boost revenue? Tariff China. Reduce deficits? Halt migration & ban ALL noncitizen welfare. Improve cities? Get tough on crime. Don’t revive Ryanism.

If the GOP cuts benefits that Americas seniors paid into and depend on, the Dems will never lose another national election

Seniors in my family and friends - registered Republicans - will vote against a Republican party that “can’t afford” to fund Social Security for Americans but can afford to fund Zelensky pension in Ukraine

Sorry, it will take more than that, much more and the American people and the American politicians will not like the Social Security and tax changes that will have to be made, so nothing will get done until push comes to shove, forcing the highest U.S. taxes in history, to “save” social security and pay down U.S. federal debt.

Excuse me, but we’re paying trillions on services for illegals and low-income “legal” immigrants. Stop those expenses first and then we can talk.

Excuse me, but as needed as the idea sounds - ending the mess of the illegals, it will not save social security. Left unchanged and even without all the illegals Social Security is a disaster waiting to be admitted and even fixing the issue of the illegals will not change that.

You sound like Romney and Ryan. Rich RINOs who have their pensions and want to cut the little guys senior benefits. Not only callous, but political suicide for the GOP. The Dems can credibly tell voters that GOP will cut their Social Security - they won’t be lying as Rush claimed they were.

Excuse me, but while bandaids are good they cannot cure a large gaping wound that requires many stiches to stop the bleeding, and that bandaid will not even stave off death in the meantime. It’s a great political talking point for the moment but it is not cure all for social security. It will get a lot of traction but will not solve social security essential problem, with has little to do with the illegals. The essential problem is that there is no true “trust fund”, just IOUs from the treasury that are now starting to come due, and no president or Congress has yet admitted that Social Plan adjustments, and tax changes, will have to be made in order to refinance the IOU’s social security has to cash in to keep paying benefits.

You sound like the know nothings that do not really understand the problems that social security is in. You, in error, think it can just go along as is and everything will be hunky dory. That is the head in the sand approach that Congress and Presidents have been practicing for years, pushing off the day of reckoning to when someone else will be in office. That does not and has not solved the problem, just made it worse.

Or, cut it out completely. Pay everyone out into a private retirement account, based on what they've paid in with interest.

Current beneficiaries / those a year or two out, can choose to take lump sum or receive benefits as they normally would have.

Whole thing is gone in about three decades, never to worry anyone again.

Medicare is a bit more difficult to pull out of, but unless we want to pass a Constitutional Amendment to allow for it, it's not something FedGov should be involved in, at all.

You spew rhetoric, no statistics. Fact is, our federal govt is an ocean of waste, at home and internationally. Massive cuts should come before anybody talks about trimming Social Security. Notice you’re focused on cutting Social Security, with no similar passion about cutting welfare and education and housing and hospitals for low income immigrants and illegals, or closing hundreds of our bases overseas. And no mention of raising taxes on wile hedge fund billionaires, or on foreign remittances by immigrants, or on imports worldwide , all of which Trump favored - and Romney/Ryan oppose. Your Romney/Ryan philosophy lost at the polls in 2012. Trumps support of Social Security won in 2016, carrying states where Romney Ryan Republicanism couldn’t compete. You have a purist libertarian philosophy that is great at everything except winning elections

Put everybody at the risk of the stock market. Bush proposed that and it went down in flames. Polls said even Republican voters opposed it. The GOP establishment has to stop fighting Socisl Security and start defending it, as Trump has said again and again. It’s an American program for the retirement security of Americans. An American first platform would defend it, as Trump has said. Any other policy will consign the GOP to perpetual political defeat.

Oh, so you’re of a very non-Conservative mind that thinks general tax revenues should pay for social security benefits?

Sorry, I am all for massive cuts of general federal expenditures, but (a) social security taxes do not go for those expenditures now, and (b) general taxes should not be for fuding social security, so the cuts in general spending you are referring to should not be any key to saving social security.

“Notice you’re focused on cutting Social Security”

Notice I have not made any comment about “cutting social security”. There are many social security and tax adjustments that can be made without cutting current beneficiaries current benefits - but neither any Congress nor any President has been willing to admit them. Doing nothing is not a solution.

I never voted for Romney and voted for Trump twice.

If the stock market is where they choose to invest, yes. That should be their choice. SS is not "American", except in the fact that America currently has it.

The only reason it's even "Constitutional" is because the Supreme Court had already caved to FDR's court-packing threats. Or perhaps you can point out the part of the Constitution that gives the power to do this to FedGov?

And even if it was truly Constitutional, it shouldn't be mandatory - citizens should be able to decide to participate or not. And those that don't can talk to their employer about a 6.2% raise based on stopping their employer-side SS taxes.

When Biden starts his 2024 reelection campaign by saying that Republicans want to end Social Security, please don’t be among those Freepers who protest that he’s “smearing” the GIP - because you clearly DO want to end Social Security. At least when it comes to Republicans like you (and Ryan and Romney) Biden and the Dems are telling the truth, unfortunately.

You, like Biden, “clearly” don’t know what you are talking about. Admitting we cannot keep sticking our collective heads in the sand, is not a call to “end” social security.

Placing more people in the workforce will
benefit SS. After all, that’s what the
entire system is based on. Importing
millions of illegals puts a tremulous
strain on SS funds. The Dems plan on
passing laws that will allow illegals
to get them to pay into the system, via
Dreamers and green cards, even if not
all-out amnesty. In the meantime, the
Repubs are against amnesty, and are
trying to fix what the Dems have created.
Quite the conundrum.
Me being retired, EARNED every red cent
I recieve. 47 years of paying into a
system I believed would be there for
my golden years. Countless hours, living
in cheap motels, traveling around the
country, away from family and friends.
My choice, I know. But it allowed for
higher than average SS benefits. I don’t
eat cat food, or go dumpster diving for
leftover pizza dough.
