DeSantis Admin Demands NHL Remove ‘Discriminatory Prohibitions’ from Minority-Only Hockey Summit
National Review ^ | 01/13/2023 | Caroline Downey

Posted on 01/13/2023 10:45:17 PM PST by thegagline

The National Hockey League is hosting an upcoming conference for “diverse” job-seekers looking to pursue careers in the sport that is open only to racial and gender minorities.

On February 2 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the NHL — a professional association composed of 32 teams in the United States and Canada — will hold a new diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiative called the Pathway to Hockey Summit. The event is exclusive to female, black, Asian/Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, and/or disabled registrants.

In a separate line on the advertisement, the NFL writes, “Veterans are also welcome and encouraged to attend.”

*** The administration of Governor Ron DeSantis quickly called out the apparent discrimination of the events, more than one of which appear to be taking place in Florida.

“Discrimination of any sort is not welcome in the state of Florida, and we do not abide by the woke notion that discrimination should be overlooked if applied in a politically popular manner or against a politically unpopular demographic,” DeSantis press secretary Bryan Griffin said. “We are fighting all discrimination in our schools and our workplaces, and we will fight it in publicly accessible places of meeting or activity. We call upon the National Hockey League to immediately remove and denounce the discriminatory prohibitions it has imposed on attendance to the 2023 ‘Pathway to Hockey’ summit.” ***

Well, the northerners who did grow up fan-watching hockey up north have now retired out and are populating regions of Florida.

“Refrigeration”

No foolin?

The cost must be astronomical. What are ticket sales like? Must be catering to the northern retiree crowd.

I will say this, when I was living in Northern Virginia for about a decade, we had a car dealership there that would actually stay open till midnight for repair work and I took my truck up to get some needed repairs which I could never find time to do during the day with my commute etc... and I’m waiting in lounge with a television and no remote control and there was a hockey game on.

The repair took a couple hours and when I walked out to pay the bill and be on my way clerk asked me “well how was your wait?” I looked at her and a couple of people in the room told them about the television and the lack of remote control and then said “you know, I don’t think I have ever watched an entire hockey game before.”

Amazing how the Trumpites can turn an article like this about what a great and courageous thing DeSantis is doing, into a hit piece on the source of this news, National Review because of their anti Trump agenda.

I guess if I was in that loyal cult member of the Trumpites, I’d do that same thing. DeSantis is awesome.

The first round of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs proved historic for ESPN and Turner Sports, with ratings for TNT and TBS the highest since the advent of cable television.

Games covered on ESPN, ESPN2, TNT and TBS averaged 768,000 viewers, an increase of 58 percent from last season on NBCSN, CNBC and USA Network.

Turner Sports broke records for individual game and total rounds. The series-deciding game between the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins on TBS on May 15 delivered 2.3 million average viewers, making it the most-watched first-round game ever on cable. The number was the most for a non-Stanley Cup Final game on cable since Game 7 of the 2018 Eastern Conference Final, when 2.6 million watched the Washington Capitals defeat the Tampa Lightning 4-0.

Scoring is up. Ratings are up. Revenue is up.

In other words every single sentence of yours is WRONG.

Because it’s played in doors. And the population of the US has been moving steadily there for decades.

To me, the NHL is telling the world that these “minorities” have to have special treatment and help in order to become a player. Why? Anyone and I mean anyone can be what ever they want in this country if they want it bad enough. It takes desire, practice, ambition and wanting it bad enough to do the work. An there is enough help out there for people to ask for and receive what they need. It is wrong to ban someone from participating in recruitment because they aren’t a “minority”. It’s called racism. Isn’t that what they claim they want to end? This is not the way to do it.

Gary Bettman, the Commissioner of the NHL is behind this.

No. Kim Davis, the NHL's executive vice president of social impact, growth initiatives and legislative affairs.

Every major corporation in America has been tasked with hiring a "Corporate Diversity Officer" --typically a black woman, to "Have a boardroom that looks like America." Her job is to bring diversity to the NHL.

Whenever we see companies diving into woke politics and embracing decisions that hurt their bottom line and drive away customers, it is almost always these diversity officers who are behind it, knowing nothing about how to actually run a business and hired solely to help a company's ESG score.

There's a number of people here who in seeing Ron DeSantis whittle away at Trump's base by actually doing the things Trump only tweeted about doing, find him a threat to what they believe should be Trump's 2024 coronation.

They desperately want DeSantis to fail.

Would you even recognize the quality of play in hockey?

The quality of play in professional hockey has improved over the last 25 years — roughly the period time that has elapsed since Wayne Gretzky retired — in every way that you can measure objectively. Gretzky himself even said recently (only half-jokingly) that he would have had a hard time making it to the NHL in 1979 if he had to compete against today’s players.

What HAS changed is that the game has lost a lot of its character as it has become more refined and “over-coached” the way it is — and also because its storied history has been downplayed in an attempt to market the game to casual fans.

The angry mob.

Do you think these companies want to hire diversity executives?

all the teams look the same...all the teams play the same way...all the teams play a variation of the neutral zone trap, which started about “25” years ago...hmmm, right around the time the New Jersey Devils beat a very heavy favorite Detroit team in the 1995 Final 4-0, using that very same type defensive “system..where the wingers (are they even called that anymore?) are actually told not to try and score but to be more defensive. All teams do now is just dump the puck into the others team zone...over and over and over..hoping they get the “bounce” that creates a scoring chance. No creativity...no skill. You actually had a FIRST YEAR EXPANSION TEAM make it to the Stanley Cup Final...that about explains everything about today’s “game”. Recently saw Mark Messier in a commercial trying to say the the NHL is “better than ever”...when you actually have to make a commercial pushing that, you got a problem. Gretzky, Messier etc would NEVER bad mouth the league. Anyway, the ghost of the 80’s and 90’s hangs over this league so bad...to go from seeing such astonishing players to what passes as hockey now is flat out just strange. And they did it to themselves....sad.

The Trap has been out of the game a good 15 years. You really quite simply don’t know what you’re talking about.

And you’re exactly why I stopped donating here; the rampant anti-Semitism that a few people here continue to try to slip in.

I’m am not anti-Semitic. Rather, I’m pointing out reality: Soros, Garland(Garfinkel), Weingarten, Yellen, Mayorkas, Larry Fink (Blackrock), Bankman-Fried, etc etc. There is a major difference between Orthodox and Conservative Jews (who I grew up around and befriended) and the Reformed Jews.
