Given the rest of the info at the link, should we really believe the explanation for the injuries...?

Was it reported by the media?

Be skeptical, be very skeptical.

“Being accident prone near Seventy is different from being accident prone near Twenty!”

lol...Sad but true and still having a 20 year old mindset doesn’t help.

I have several tasks that need doing and require a ladder. I literally have to beat myself over the head to not attempt them.

I have in fact hired out the tasks twice and it pains me every time that I must pay money not take the risk.

Yup. It has taken OSHA 20 years to catch up with open platform safety procedures. Workers, particularly roofers, have reaped the benefit.

I am no fan of OSHA but they got this ones right.

Sounds like you are being as safe as one can be.

I discovered years ago that my best talent involving home repair was my ability to sign a check or a credit card slip.

Everytime I call “the man”, “the man” comes in a $80K F-150 to make an outrageous estimate and then sends over a crew of what looks like 3rd worlders and possibly illegals. This makes me sick so I just do everything myself while I still can.

I haven’t been on the roof for years and years and years

There’s nothing routine about climbing on the roof

I have cut thousands of trees.

I hire a young man I know who had started a tree service.

He asked me why I hired him to cut several large trees next to my house, Knowing I have removed many in situations like that before.

I said I older and wiser and you have better insurance then me.

For those who may not be familiar with Greg Steube:

44yo, very fit
Former Army JAG
100% conservative rating by ACU in 2022
His father was sheriff of Manatee Co.

Very popular, Steube has won FL District 17 with more than 62% of the vote for the past three election cycles.

I live in a small enough town that I have mostly the opposite result; most repair people show up in an older pick-up and do most of the work themselves. If they need a helper, it's usually a 3rd-worlder, but the business owner does most of the work themselves. It's the larger organizations that send out recent arrivals who have a problem speaking English.

On Christmas Eve, I called the garage door guy at 8AM and he was at the house by 10. Of course, it helps that he recognized the name and asked, "Are you the guy who does my taxes?"

"Yes, and your brother's business too." But I don't think I got preferential treatment because of that. It's in the nature of the small business owner to get stuff done. They really do rely on customer satisfaction. It's not just a slogan for them.

My mom’s friend was outside cleaning the bottom of her window outside, standing on a simple step stool. Not a ladder, just a one-step-up flat surface stool. When she stepped down, she went down. Broke two ankles and one pelvis.

That was in September and she’s still out of commission. She’s about 65 years old.

He is my Representative. I am praying that he is going to be ok. He might have been up on his roof fixing problems from Hurricane Ian. I had a friend who was in construction and fell off the roof and landed on his head. He is no longer with us. Hoping for the best for Rep. Stuebe.

I am going to be 60 this year.
As I was cleaning out my gutters in November 2022 I was thinking about those gutter covers. That in five to ten years I probably would not want to be doing this anymore.

I have never hired anyone to do things around my house except heavy equipment operators (excavators, etc).

I’ve wondered for many years why the make step ladders with a top step, since the top step is so dangerous.
