KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — A former researcher who was accused of hiding work he did in China while employed by the University of Kansas, was sentenced Wednesday to time served by a federal judge who said his action did not warrant a prison sentence.

Feng “Franklin” Tao was originally convicted in April on four counts, including three counts of wire fraud. But U.S. District Judge Julie Robinson in September threw out the wire fraud convictions and let the false statement conviction stand.

Federal prosecutors argued that Tao defrauded the University of Kansas, the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation by lying about work he was doing for Fuzhou University in China. The university and the federal agencies, which awarded Tao grants for research projects, contended his actions cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars.

In announcing the sentence, Robinson said prosecutors had presented no evidence during the trial that Tao received any money for his work in China, which is required for a wire fraud conviction.

… let the false statement conviction stand.

As long as Biden remains free there is plenty of room here for an appeal.

“who “fixed” this?”

I really do not think anyone “fixed” this. It is simply the New Normal in our Post Constitutional America with the multi-tiered justice system.
From what I have been reading & hearing, I assume that members of the CCP now rank only a little lower on the scale than Democrats and Washington nobility. The hoi polloi out here in Flyover Country are ranked lower than a snake’s belly in a wagon rut in Death Valley.

They should have charged him with illegal parading and locked him up for 5 years. No evidence needed.

I just moved from Kansas City to Raleigh NC and I can tell you NC is 25 years behind Kansas City in everything.

Legal system doesn’t have efiling yet—Wake County just getting it this February. Many of the laws are antiquated. No apparent zoning, no codes enforcement, houses falling down, junk in yards, old broken down cars in yards, no leash laws…. That said the people are way nicer here so there is an up side. But my way of speaking straight is odd to them and their timing is slow to me.

Everything's up to date in Kansas City.

The US elite decided to replace American scientists with non-citizens after the end of the Cold War. This is a consequence of ignoring the reality of human nature and the world in which we live.

Either they didn’t pay him, or the prosecutor is a Chicom or Soros stooge.
