Heckling of Biden Reflects a New, Coarser Normal for House GOP
The New York Times via Yahoo ^ | February 9, 2023 | By Karoun Demirjian (D-NYT)

WASHINGTON — The House floor has been no stranger to rowdy spectacle in 2023, but the eruptions of Republican vitriol against President Joe Biden during his State of the Union address Tuesday night underscored a new and notably coarse normal in Congress, where members of the GOP majority tossed aside rules of decorum and turned the annual speech into a showcase for partisan hostility.

The raucous peals of “liar,” “that’s not true” and at least one expletive lobbed at Biden during his 73-minute address dwarfed outbursts during previous such speeches, most of which have been interrupted by a single disturbance, if at all.

The display — captured in images of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., her mouth wide-open as she booed and gave a thumbs-down to the president — reflected the ethos that has come to define the Republican-led House, where an emboldened right wing that styles itself after former President Donald Trump is unapologetic about its antipathy for Biden and eager to show it in attention-grabbing ways.

The catcallers heckled with impunity, despite a private warning from McCarthy before the speech to be on good behavior and his public promises that the House would avoid “childish games” during the address. It was the latest example of the speaker’s struggles to control his unruly rank and file.

Such members “are proudly disrupters, and I don’t think McCarthy has a very good way to rein in the behavior of his rank-and-file members,” said Sarah Binder, a professor of political science at George Washington University. “So it potentially allows that behavior to fester and continue, especially if there’s no perceived punishment or cost to doing so.”

Biden deserved the heckling. Does he think that he can just speak lie after lie and everyone will just bark like trained seals? The reps there are representing their constituents.

Sad thing is that joe probably doesn’t even know that what he was saying was a pack of lies. He is kept in a bubble.

Does the Times comment on the outrageous lies from an outrageous liar? No, it is that the Republicans should politely submit to a rude and crude liar. Republican response to rude and crude liar is so much more worse than the rude and crude liar mouthing them.

Heckling reflects the fact that Republicans are finding a spine and calling out the left on their asinine lies

The nyt just doesn’t like the left’s tactics being thrown back In. Their faces, so they resort to projecting, thinking that the low info public won’t notice that the right is actuslly much nicer about the heckling that the filthy left are- thankfully there are enough high info conservatives to keep pointing out to the low info public that the left are crybu,,ies that don’t like it when others use the tactics that the left employ

It’s way past time for the Repubs to get into the trenches and fight.
Playing the “nice guy, high road” has gotten us exactly nothing, as in Mitt (the dog slayer), China Mitch, Crazy Liz, etc.
Take the gloves off, stick with the truth, and we can’t lose.
