I know a US Representative can't do anything about this, but it has always confused me about why a state with an income tax can't tax drug dealer profits. After all, just about every state starts line 1 of their return with "enter your Federal Adjusted Gross Income" and then goes through a litany of additions and subtractions to come up with a "State Taxable Income".

So why can't a state tax drug profits as income, even if the federal government doesn't?
