California Electric Bills Will Be Based On How Much You Earn
Front Page Magazine ^ | April 16, 2023 | Daniel Greenfield

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs"

Following the words of Karl Marx, “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs”, California’s corrupt power monopolies are going full Commie.

Three major utility companies in California are looking to restructure customer billing, and part of that means customers could be charged based on how much money they make.

Sure, why not? Charging people based on what they use, rather than the tier they occupy in the social justice human pyramid is too capitalist anyway.

Southern California Edison, Pacific Gas & Electric and San Diego Gas & Electric filed a joint proposal this week for a flat-rate charge based on income.

The income-based bill proposal is part of the companies’ compliance with legislation passed by the California state government last year requiring these types of plans for utilities.

What’s next, a proposal for supermarkets that can charge you based on your income for bread and eggs? Also, Best Buy should charge you for a new phone based on your earnings. Airline tickets? There can be three tiers based on earnings.

Not that it matters how much California utilities charge for power that they can’t deliver anyway to people fleeing the state as fast as they can.

If you like your Communism, you can keep your Communism.

The headline is a lie.

It’s a PROPOSAL that will not be approved.

... because there isn’t enough socialism enough there already.

Grocery stores should be mandated to do that too. Buying a bag of potato chips? “Sorry, we’ll need to see your last three tax returns to determine how much you made, and therefore how much to charge you. It’s the California way! Because social justice!!”

[The USA, particularly its most woke parts, seem to be in a race between implementing marxism, and bankruptcy and collapse.

Which will happen first?]

The astounding stupidity of a great number of American people is mind-boggling. Barky showed just how easily they can be led astray. I just heard "Cult of Personality" on the way home last night. That song was prophetic. Unfortunately. It is so spot-on. I often wonder if the band realized it when it was happening again.

Joblessness and starvation are on the horizon.

In Finland, speeding fines are indexed to income

Since 1920, Finland has had a day-fine system for certain offences, starting with speeding over 20kph.

The driver is then subjected to a fine that is proportional to what they earn. But how does it work in practice?

To calculate the amount of the fine, the Finnish authorities take into account several criteria, starting with the offender’s net daily salary and the number of dependent children.

Depending on the offence, a scale determines the number of days of fines to be paid.

Sometimes this leads to comical results, as when in 2015 a millionaire had to pay a fine of more than €54,000 for a speeding offence of exceeding the limit by just over 20kph.

The absolute record is held by a motorcyclist, who had to pay €116,000 in 2002 for exceeding the speed limit by 25kph in a city..

Finland has inspired other Scandinavian countries such as Sweden and Norway, in addition to Switzerland and, more recently, Britain.

In all these countries, fines for speeding are now indexed in some way to income, with scales that are specific to each country.

In contrast, the United States uses a flat-fine model.

Look for this to be challenged as a violation of the 14th Amendment’s “equal protection” clause.

$5K a month for the same bill they now charge a few hundred
(guessing on that number).

***********

That’s 60% of your earnings. Don’t think that is the ratio
that will be adopted.

We sure have a lot of folks here who only read the headline.

Read this - it’s short.

https://www.pgecurrents.com/articles/3700-pg-e-submits-proposal-lower-electric-bills-low-income-customers-provide-bill-transparency-stability-advance-clean-energy-goals

The CPUC has required utilities to make income a component of residential bills.

“Additionally, AB 205 instructs the CPUC to base the residential fixed charge on a customer’s household income level, with lower-income households paying less than higher-income households for grid and other costs. The proposal recommends a qualified, independent state agency or third party be responsible for verifying customers’ total household incomes.”

https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220AB205

The utilities recommend using a third party to determine residential customer incomes.

Why not? Its California, land of insanity. If it isn’t right away it will get there, besides there are reparations to pay: How better else to get the money than to force people to pay exorbitant sums for necessities?

“...car prices, then grocery prices, then...”

When people had to make a choice between medicine and rent, which one got ignored?

All three of the utility companies in question are investor owned. P G & E was the original in the merger with San Francisco Gas and Electric Company and the California Gas and Electric Corporation in October 10, 1905. Their 2022 total equity was $22.82B and their assets were $118.6B. Make no mistake, they want to be able to pay their own bill also and these people play monopoly with real buildings.
