New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says the lawmaker leading the House Republican caucus is congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene — not House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
AOC delivered the diss on MSNBC Sunday to former White House press secretary-turned-anchor Jen Psaki, who had asked the lefty pol if she thought McCarthy (R-Calif.) was running the caucus.
“He’s not,” Ocasio-Cortez said, prompting Psaki to ask who was in charge.
“I think you’ve got Marjorie Taylor Greene running the caucus. I mean, and she makes very common public statements to that effect,” Ocasio-Cortez insisted on Inside with Jen Psaki. “Every time something irks her she communicates McCarthy is doing her bidding and I think this is something that is quite clear.”
Republicans have a 222-213 majority in the House over Democrats following the 2022 midterms.
McCarthy struggled mightily to get the votes to become House Speaker, but was finally able to break through with the help of Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) — one of the most vocal and controversial House members.
