Opposition builds against EPA rule to transition Americans to electric vehicles

Opposition to new Environmental Protection Agency tailpipe regulations is growing after the federal agency projected the regulation would put more than half of American drivers out of gas cars and into electric vehicles.

As The Center Square previously reported, the EPA has projected that the proposed changes would mean that fully electric vehicles make up two thirds of all new "light duty" and 46% of new medium-duty vehicle sales by 2032. That would include most regular consumer vehicles, even SUVs and many pickup trucks. Currently, electric vehicles make up less than 5% of the market.

A group of 151 House Republicans rallied together to oppose the newly proposed rule, sending a letter to EPA Administrator Michael Regan Monday calling the rules "unworkable and impractical."

"The proposals are the latest effort by the Biden administration to commandeer America’s transportation sector and force its complete vehicle electrification under the guise of mitigating climate change," the letter said.

The EPA vehicles included in the 2032 projection are "passenger cars and light trucks: minivans, passenger vans, pickup trucks, and sport-utility vehicles."

The EPA defines heavy duty vehicles as "heavy trucks and buses: large pick-ups, delivery trucks, recreational vehicles (RVs), and semi trucks."

Critics have blasted the proposed changes, saying it is part of a larger Biden administration effort to undermine American energy production.

"We have never advanced as a nation or as an economy when government dictates consumer choices," Daniel Turner, executive director of Power the Future, told The Center Square. "Yet the Biden administration is using the power of government to determine what we drive and what appliances we have in our homes."

The EPA argues the rules would improve air quality by avoiding "nearly 10 billion tons of CO2 emissions." The proposed rule changes still face a lengthy public comment and approval process as well as...

There are 222 House Republicans.

Why did only 151 of them sign on to this?

Primary those that didn’t.

No. The “sane and rational” have mostly buried their heads in the sand and hope it all passes. After all...if it’s not in MY backyard it isn’t really happening. Incrementalism is alive and well as a socialist construct. The more you see it the more you don’t.

Trump needs to run on repealing CAFE regulations.

These do-gooders have a conscious or subconscious death wish for the United States. Same as opening up the Mexican border to let millions flood in. Many minds in our Federal Government have been messed up and deranged by the clot shots they flocked to.

The UK is talking about “15 minute cities,” in which you have only restricted permission to travel more than 15 minutes away from home. That’s not like 1940, more like 940. Serfs have no need to travel any farther than the nearby wheat field.

Collectivism does not factor in realities when the central committee has a plan. The plan must proceed until the realities submit to it.

Republicans are good for something, I see. The democrat plan is a total disaster. The result will be impossible energy bills, with the “rich” paying extra for the “poor” and cold, dark winters with no transportation.

White john kerry, greta, and the sniveling liberal elite ride around in luxury on our dime, telling us to eat worms and die shivering in the dark.

Exactly!
They can’t regulate miles driven with gas but they CAN switch you off with EV anytime they want.
This is the REAL goal.

“The idea is to allow only the elites the ability to travel at their leisure...”

In 2011, elitist dictator Qaddhafi traveled at his “leisure” to a storm pipe in the Libyan desert where a local provincial militia dragged him out and shot him.

Try telling that to the EPA and other government agencies.

I can see the power company doing staged blackouts to try and protect the grid. I live in the midwest and we have actual winters for 3 months out of the year. It is longer north of me. EV mileage stinks the colder it gets. During nasty winter conditions people are likely to charge their EVs twice as often putting an extra strain on the power grid.

Its every agency and there’s a case before the USSC about this. Legally none of these agencies have any right to make laws or any rules etc.

It’s a fight thaty needs to happen and be won. Their sole “original” purpose was to enforce the laws imposed by congress.

With electric cars you can be controlled and kept confined and taxed in a manner that is not as easy with Internal Combustion Engines and Gasoline Marketing currently established.

We have has a century of unbounded freedom to travel and relocate. Kiss it goodbye.

You don’t believe they actually intend to allow us to have vehicles of any kind, do you?

They want us dead, and they mean business.

Irenic :" They’re good for virtue signaling, conversation starters
and super neat toys to show your friends."

Exactly true !
Electric vehicles are ostentatious virtue signs
which will make good vegetable and flower planters when they eliminate carbon fuels,
and will be found in backyards out of humiliation.

They are only good to find and locate libs
and DemoncRATic voters when they sit idle.
