In a phone interview with radio host Glenn Beck for the Thursday edition of The Glenn Beck Program, DeSantis finally punched back against those claims. A clip from their exchange began circulating Twitter via Citizen Free Press.
“I think he did great for three years, but when he turned the country over to Fauci in March of 2020, that destroyed millions of people’s lives,” DeSantis said. “In Florida, we were one of the few that stood up, cut against the grain, took incoming fire from media, bureaucracy, the left, even a lot of Republicans, had schools open, preserved businesses.”

- March 30, 2020: Two weeks later, Trump extends his nationwide lockdown guidelines, indefinitely
- April 1, 2020: Only AFTER Trump extended his lockdown guidelines indefinitely, AND personally called DeSantis, did DeSantis agree to limited lockdowns that were LESS than what Trump requested nationally

There were beaches closed, yes. But DeSantis did not close them. The County Commissions closed them. I live in Wakulla County, Florida and our beaches never closed nor did the ones in next door Franklin County. Broward and Miami Dade (still relatively blue) areas did close their beaches for a few weeks at the height of the pandemic.
