GOP-led Texas House panel issues 20 impeachment counts against state Attorney General Ken Paxton*

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Following years of scandal, criminal charges and corruption accusations, Texas's Republican Attorney General, Ken Paxton, finds himself on the brink of impeachment, and a GOP-led panel is heading the charge.

In a unanimous decision, a Republican-led House investigative committee that spent months quietly looking into Paxton recommended impeaching the state's top lawyer Thursday on 20 articles, including bribery, unfitness for office and abuse of public trust.

The House could vote on the recommendation as soon as Friday. If it impeaches Paxton, he would be forced to leave office immediately.

The move sets up what could be a remarkably sudden downfall for one of the GOP's most prominent legal combatants, who in 2020 asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn President Joe Biden's victory. Only two officials in Texas’ nearly 200-year history have been impeached.

Paxton has been under FBI investigation for years over accusations that he used his office to help a donor. He was separately indicted on securities fraud charges in 2015, but has yet to stand trial.

When the five-member committee's investigation came to light Tuesday, Paxton suggested it was a political attack by the House's “liberal” Republican speaker, Dade Phelan. He called for Phelan’s resignation and accused him of being drunk during a marathon session last Friday. Phelan’s office brushed off the accusation as Paxton attempting to “save face.”

Conservative defeats a Bush in the primary, then the Democrat in November. Then the House impeaches.

Sound familiar??

I don't know how corrupt Paxton is, or if he is at all.

But it's been clear for years that the RINO's don't like him at all.

They couldn't convince the people to remove him so they will remove him themselves.

The GOOBs are upset because Paxton keeps going after Bidenskyyy and his DemonRATS instead of non-RINO GOOBers.

Repukes dare not even utter the word impeachment for any Rats and the country is in shambles. This, I have no doubt has to do with his staunch support for Trump. Why are no Rats being impeached anywhere in the country but their going after their own?!?

He doesn’t impress me in the way he responds. He sounds like a purely power politics player. I voted for the guy only because there was no capable challenger, but I heard him on Mark Davis’ show yesterday morning and was completely unimpressed. And his statement about “ the rule of law and the will of the people” ignores that they are NOT the same thing.

As a Texan this is no surprise, but at least there may be some upside in that Paxton is popular among the base here and they will be reminded that the Bush apparatus still runs this state similar to the situation in Arizona with the McCain RINO’s. I’d be surprised if the full House does this but who knows. Country club Bushies....gag.

When you think of the Texas State Legislature, think of an old fashioned see-saw. “Normal” is one kid on one end and one kid on the other end.

In the Texas Legislature, roughly speaking, you have about 6 “kids” on one end (Democrats and RINOs) and 3 on the other end (Republicans).

Both sides HATE each other. So, don’t believe this uber liberal media outlet (msn). Even IF the House can vote for impeachment, Paxton still has to be convicted in the Senate.

This is lawfare the Left has been pushing, and succeeding at for decades. Very similar to the push against Tom Delay, only here, the Rinos are after Paxton.

Paxton is likely seen as much too successful at upholding the Constitution and the rule of law.

Therefore, he is a threat to the Rino power structure.

Notice: None of this has been found to be valid in the Courts.

Here’s one member of the committee….the chair…if I can find more, I’ll post….

Representative Andrew Murr, a Republican who serves as chairman of the committee.

Many are missing the fact that the GOPe is making a huge effort to destroy the populist America First ideology in the party.

The only hope this country had is being steadily wiped out. The GOPe doesn’t care about winning. They just want control back so they can lie in the primaries and the general elections to get votes. Then abandon and make excuses for why they can’t deliver on promises to average voters if they happen to win.

I wish I could be more upbeat, but things aren’t looking good.

Ken Paxton is the Attorney General with the best court challenge against the illegitimate 2020 election fraud conducted in swing states, claiming that their unconstitutional voting rule changes violated the 14th Amendment by denying citizens in other states equal protection under the law. He also made Texas a party to the strongest legal challenge to the Biden’s ATF pistol brace gun registration rule, saying that banning short-barrel rifles is unconstitutional to begin with.

This is the Ken Paxton whom these RINOs are trying to oust in spite of the choice made by Texas voters.

The Democrats know that when reelected, President Trump will nominate Ken Paxton as the Attorney General of the United States and they are working to defeat the nomination right now.

“The Democrats know that when reelected, President Trump will nominate Ken Paxton as the Attorney General of the United States and they are working to defeat the nomination right now.”

You’re probably correct. Paxton wouldn’t recuse himself just because the Democrats say boo.

Jeff Sessions in one action, basically DESTROYED the Trump presidency. He should have stayed in the Senate.

Though, in reality, the Senate would only have confirmed a similar pantywaist...see Bill Barr.

It’s completely illegal

Phelan seeks prosecution for acts prior to Paxton’s election.

That is forbidden by Texas code.

The house has many liberal republicans.
