DeSantis says he would welcome bill to abolish 'corrupt' IRS: 'We need something totally different'
Fox News ^ | 27 May 23 | Kyle Morris

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he would be "welcoming" of a measure from Congress to defund the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) if he's elected president next year.

The comments from DeSantis, who officially announced this week that he would seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, came during a conversation with radio host and Second Amendment advocate Dana Loesch on The Dana Show.

During the interview, DeSantis was asked whether he would sign a measure from Congress to abolish the IRS through funding means, as well as what he would replace the system with.

"Are you for a fair tax, a flat tax, where do you stand on that?" Loesch asked DeSantis.

"So, the answer's yes. I think the IRS is a corrupt organization and I think it's not a friend to the average citizen or taxpayer," DeSantis responded. "We need something totally different."

I've supported all of the single rate proposals, I think they would be a huge improvement over the current system and I would be welcoming to take this tax system, chunk it out the window and do something that's more favorable to the average folks."

DeSantis, who has repeatedly taken aim at the IRS for its unfair practices and crackdown on the middle class, said last August that an effort from the Biden administration to expand the IRS with 87,000 new agents was an indication of disrespect.

"Of all the things that have come out of Washington that have been outrageous, this has got to be pretty close to the top," DeSantis said at the time. "I think it was basically just the middle finger to the American public, that this is what they think of you."

Reminds of the guy that burned his house to the ground to keep the IRS from getting it...then he fueled up his private airplane and crashed it into the IRS building near him. Many, many people completely understood his feelings...as do I.

Yeah, it’s called the FairTax and it’s been around for a decade, reintroduced on the House floor under Speaker McCarthy. And it’s solid, just waiting for it’s time.

And it ain’t Meatball’s work.

DeDummy thinks we are fools.

He’s pushing soundbites written to swoon conservatives. His scriptwriters are a group working under Rove. They think they know how to push conservatives buttons.

Like Stormy peddling her boobs, the Rovians using DeSenseless think we conservatives will gush at their concocted conservatives campaign confab.

Won’t work Morons!

When the Republicans took the House and Senate in 1994, lots of promises were made. Rep Dick Armey (R-TX) suggested that the GOP would abolish the income tax, and perhaps even the IRS.

Nothing came of it.

Here is another Trump cultists LYING to everyone because he doesn't have his own thoughts.

The TRUTH is that when DeSantis was in Congress, he voted for every flat tax idea that came along. He has always supported eliminating the IRS and instituting a flat tax.

But the Trump cultists (and the lying Trump campaign) want to claim that DeSantis voted for a tax increase when he was actually voting for a replacement flat tax.

But I don't expect honesty from cult members. They have no substance, so they just LIE.

Thanks for pointing this out. I have boticed some rather stupidly misleading tv ads in my area making the same false claim about DeSantis although I was unable to catch the source of the ad.

Yes, the Trump campaign is LYING about DeSantis on taxes because DeSantis has been a perfect supporter of the flat tax.

What Trump did was take DeSantis' vote for a 23% national sales tax that eliminates all federal taxes, not just income taxes, and calls that supporting tax increases.

It is totally dishonest and another example of Trump's turn to the left and his attacks on conservatives.

It is the same as the Trump campaign (and the Trump cultists here) claim DeSantis wants to gut social security and medicare.

The TRUTH is that DeSantis supports reforming Social Security and Medicare to keep them solvent.

To the left, touching these programs is “gutting” them.....and Trump uses the left’s tactics against DeSantis.

Also notice how Trump welcomed Haley and Scott to the race? The two big RINOs get a welcome and praise from Trump.

DeSantis, the only true conservative in the race, just gets attacked using leftwing talking points.

The flatness of the tax, although important, is not the real problem. You can have a very progressive, yet very simple tax. The tax rate (other than capital gains) affects one line which most people look up in a chart rather than multiply out to convert from income made to tax paid.

The problem is the thousands of tax deductions and credits which Congress has put in. Buy insulation for your house, get a credit. Work as a teacher and buy supplies, get a credit. Buy an electric car, get a credit. Pay house interest, get a deduction. And a thousand other "do a trick, get a dog biscuit" lines in the tax code.

Cut out all of the social engineering from the tax code and make taxes simple enough so that you no longer need an accountant or a computer program to do your taxes.

I like the national sales tax because it charges one rate and requires no effort from the final tax payer. I don't like how easy it is to cheat and how much incentive there is to cheat. I am also concerned that it would reward past bad behavior and punish past good behavior (see, even I have the urge to social engineering) in that those who borrowed and spent before will be untaxed while those who saved to spend in the future would have been taxed upon earning and taxed again upon spending.

A flat tax, for all its faults, is the cleanest and most fair. No deductions, no loopholes, no special interests, no carve outs. If you made a dollar last year, send in a dime. I don’t care about your mortgage, your gifts, your medical expenses, your marital status.

Start taxing at $20K/year, no top stop.

This is why DeSantis comes across as a total loser. It’s the answer a lawyer-politician gives.

You’re a presidential candidate, for heaven’s sake. Don’t tell me what you’d “welcome” from Congress. Tell me what you stand for, tell me what you want Congress to do, and tell me what you’re doing to do to light a fire under their asses.

His response here is exactly why nothing ever gets fixed in Washington.

Some tea needs to steep.

FairTax is still brewing its pungent aroma and it smells great to all near its pot.

It took 51 years for the ‘Income Tax’ to get itself Constitutional with the 16th Amendment enacted in 1913.

Starting in 1862, the Income Tax was passed on multiple occasions only to be struck down each time as unconstitutional.

51 Years.

And it was finally sold to the American People as a tax on the wealthy who owned everything and were charging punishing rents. Sound Familiar?

Yeah, the original Income Tax was a 7% tax on the very rich with 1% on the merely rich and 98% of Americans unaffected with 0%.

So what happened?

The very rich bought off politicians and hired lawyers to shift the Income tax onto the backs of the Middle Class.

Today, the megamega zillionaires and their political pets are allowed to set up tax-exempt “Foundations” with the only requirement they disburse 3% to ‘worthy’ causes which they themselves determine.

To be fair, only a fool would fail to take advantage of the tax benefits of a tax-exempt foundation if they have the means to do it legally.

But that’s not the point.

The very rich will always find a way under an Income Tax to escape taxes. It’s possible because lawyers and paid-for legislators can always be counted on to weasel-word versions of ‘Income’ in myriad meanings and definitions.

Passive Income,
Exempt Income,
Deferred Income ...

and on and on ad infinitum.

The FairTax obliterates the word salad slice and dice ‘income’ chicanery.

But here’s the legitimate criticism of the FairTax.

“IF THE FAIRTAX IS PASSED NOW, AMERICANS WILL END UP WITH BOTH A NATIONAL RETAIL SALES TAX ... AND ... AN INCOME TAX.

SALES TAX + INCOME TAX?

Nope, can’t have it, won’t have it.

So, what to do then?

Repeal the 16th Amendment.

Not suspend it, not ignore it, REPEAL IT.

How?

38 States need to ratify its repeal.

Ain’t gonna happen without revolution.

So, it’s not yet time and may never be time.

However comma .....

We Americanos can be crafty and sneaky like lefty cockroaches.

We can choose a County, a Region, a Territory, a State, to ‘experiment’ with a special “Enterprise Zone” where the FairTax lives and breathes and the Income Tax is dead and buried, then Amerucans can stand back and witness the benefits.

TAX SANCTUARY STATES ... ANYONE???

Tax Sanctuaries is my bleat. If you like, give me a plug. There’s a lot of first ideas I’ve started that go viral and I’m looking for recognition as my hair turns silver.

PROJECT 2025

Look her up.

I do not see it that way. I see it as DeSantis saying he is in favor of eliminating the IRS and he is open to multiple ways to get there. Congress, go figure out which flat tax you can get passed, but as long as it eliminates the IRS, I will sign it.

That is not falling into the trap of minutae. It is broad policy.

Hey DeDummy Dummy ... LISTEN UP!

The FLAT TAX ain’t the FAIRTAX.

Any FLAT tax is an INCOME tax. It’s a seed that will sprout the monstrous weed that exists today.

It always does.

DeDouchebag doesn’t have the IQ to see the bigger picture. He’s a scripted dummy.

He also voted to cut Social Security and raise the Retirement Age to 70.

He’s a veritable douchebag.

Didn’t do squat in Congress.

Sucking on the Government teat his whole life

Got into the Governor’s office with Trump’s help, then stabbed Trump in the back.

Eff him!

A lot of people on FR felt the same way about Trump in 2016.

I agree. We have had many candidates just pay lip service to conservatism.

However, DeSantis has a track record we can examine. His work in Congress and as a Governor are near perfect conservatism.

So you can listen to the peanut gallery that is LYING about DeSantis or you can look at his actual work in congress and Florida for yourself.

Yup, you got it figured out.

His Globalist Rovian Masters have ordered DeSantis to:

Mandate e-verify to block illegal aliens from taking American jobs.
Toughen penalties for transporting illegal immigrants into FL.
Outlaw use of central gov’t controlled cryto-currency.
Institute death penalty for child molesters.
Protect medical workers from being forced to do abortions.
Remove woke textbooks from classrooms.
Outlaw drag shows when children present.
Make Constitutional Carry legal.
Increases penalties for selling illegal opiods like fentanyl in Fl.
Outlaws mask requirements or covid tests to enter buildings, go’vt or private.
Redraw U.S. House districts in FL to add Republican seats.

Oh lord, how much more can the people take of these evil Rovian laws signed by the devil DeSantis?

Like other 2024 contenders, DeSantis supported a nationwide sales tax system known as the “Fair Tax.” Less than a month after joining Congress, the Floridian co-sponsored a bill that would have abolished the IRS and empowered states to collect what would start out as a 23% national sales tax*. (Different calculations could mean that the tax would be 30%)

Do you pay 30% tax now?
