Amount of warming triggering carbon dioxide in air hits new peak, growing at near-record fast rate
The Associated Press ^ | June 5, 2023 | By SETH BORENSTEIN (D-AP)

The cause of global warming is showing no signs of slowing as heat-trapping carbon dioxide in Earth’s atmosphere increased to record highs in its annual Spring peak, jumping at one of the fastest rates on record, officials announced Monday.

Carbon dioxide levels in the air are now the highest they’ve been in more than 4 million years because of the burning of oil coal and gas. The last time the air had similar amounts was during a less hospitable hothouse Earth before human civilization took root, scientists said.

“To me as an atmospheric scientist, that trend is very concerning,” said NOAA greenhouse gas monitoring group leader Arlyn Andrews. “Not only is CO2 continuing to increase despite efforts to start reducing emissions, but it’s increasing faster than it was 10 or 20 years ago.”

Because of that “we are still dealing with CO2 in the atmosphere that was emitted in the early-to-mid 20th century,” University of Oklahoma meteorology professor Jason Furtado.

“We are absolutely at levels unseen in human civilization,” Furtado said. “Humans are running a massive experiment on the Earth climate system via burning carbon, and the results are turning out not great for a lot of people on this planet.”

Without sensation or grants and publishing jason will never be more than an associate professor and never make the holy grail of tenure.

Good luck with publishing more crap jason.

Absolute BS per their own studies of Ice Cores.

CO2 is plant food, and more CO2 in the atmosphere is good for humanity.

The USA will have NO coal burning power plants in a few years and the idiot regulators are working to eliminate all natural gas burning devices.

China and India are building coal-burning plants at a breakneck pace. They are adding plants at many times the rate we are retiring them.

Yet these scare articles don’t mention that. We are committing economic suicide while our military and economic enemies get off Scot free.

Same here in North Idaho. Winter settle in very quickly last fall while the trees still had leaves on them. Then winter lingered a long time and suddenly jumped to summer. Lots of plants died from the long (but not particularly cold) winter. I’m replacing plants this week. Our 15 year old Trumpet Vine that covers our pergola completely croaked.

"increased to record highs"

And how exactly was that measured? How did they determine the levels before it was measured for comparison?

" emitted in the early-to-mid 20th century"

What's the difference between CO2 exhaled by dinosaurs vs the CO2 exhaled by people? How do you indeed differentiate 20th century CO2 from the Jurassic?

I've come to understand why Saddam Hussein lowered people into paper shredders.

Carbon dioxide does not trap heat to any significant degree, in fact, not nearly as much as the simple water molecule, which exists in a highly variable amount in the atmosphere, from 20 to some 300 times as much as carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide cannot have the heat absorption or transmission properties that water molecules do, simply because there is something called “triple point”, at which the water molecule can assume any of three states of matter, as a solid (ice), liquid water, or gaseous water vapor, under atmospheric conditions that exist on planet earth (pressure and temperature). Carbon dioxide has no such “triple point” except at very low temperatures and extreme pressure.

Liquid carbon dioxide can be formed under laboratory conditions, by sealing up chips of dry ice in a short piece of Tygon tubing, then clamping both ends of the tubing tightly with screw clamps. Liquid carbon dioxide is a colorless liquid that resembles water, but release the clamps sealing it in, and it goes to the gaseous form immediately, and produces a very chilled jet, as it absorbs heat energy from the surrounding environment.

Yet the Average temperature in Germany has not changed since 1986. Not one model has yet born any fruit in the real world yet we are bombarded with Social Science propaganda.

At this point, blame the Chinese, who generate more CO2 than any other country in the world.

…400 ppm of CO2 is part of that 1%, or 0.04% (4/100) of ONE percent of the atmosphere….

Exactly…CO2 is a trace gas in the atmosphere. If the entire climate of this planet hinged on a few parts per million of a single atmospheric trace gas, the planet would have had climatic catastrophe from a single volcanic eruption wiping out all life eons ago. Interesting that the climate catastrophe cultists never mention the effect of the sun on our climate other than in the context of this ludicrous global warming balderdash. The sun’s output varies considerably and we’re are entering into a well known minimum phase of diminished solar output and thus satellite temperature data shows no global warming and actually a cooling trend. Also absent from the climate catastrophe hype is the wobble of the earths axis. The tilt of the earth on its axis relative to the sun gives us the seasons. That tilt is not stable and even slight variations influences our climate. Man caused change is simply a dogma of a climate change cult. religion
