Calls are growing for the arrest of a woman accused of shooting dead her mother-of-four neighbor after she complained about the victim's children playing outside.
The children of Ajike 'AJ' Owens were playing in a field near an apartment complex in Ocala, Florida, on Friday when her neighbor 'began yelling at them to get off her land and calling them racial slurs', renowned civil rights attorney Ben Crump said.
The children then accidentally left an iPad behind after leaving the field, Crump explained, before going back to fetch it.
But the neighbor, a 58-year-old white woman, who was not named, had taken the iPad and threw it at one of Ms Owens' children, hitting the boy and cracking the screen, the attorney said.
The mother-of-four then marched across the street to speak with the neighbor after hearing of the incident.
The neighbor fired through the door, shooting Ms Owens. She later died at hospital from her injuries.
Police have so far made no arrests following Ms Owen's death. Although Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods has confirmed police know the identity of the shooter, he said authorities are working to determine what role the state's 'stand your ground' law might play in the incident.
Under Florida's 'stand your ground' law, people are essentially permitted to use deadly force if they feel their lives are in danger.

When another homeowner called the police to inform them that a psycho man was pounding on the front door, the police said “that guy is harmless”

Sounds like it all starts with an egregious and probably repeated trespass by the kids. Mother had a duty to make them honor the shooter’s property, but didn’t. Then becomes aggressive about the abandoned property.

ASSUMING that we’re actually getting facts here, I would go with charging the shooter as one can reasonably assume that the shooting wouldn’t have happened if she hadn’t been a wise-ass regarding the IPad.
I think you should probably say ..........”the journalist has most likely INTENTIONALLY mis characterized some of the real facts of the case in this article”.
Lot’s of questions.
Is there a father-of-four in the picture?
Were the children well behaved and playing, or terrorizing their neighbor and wrecking her stuff? (The kids next to me run through my yard all the time, just looking for somewhere else to run around. I play the part of the old curmudgeon and chase them off. Now that summer is here, the squirt guns play a part)
Was this the first time, or is it a daily occurrence?
Has the mother tried in the past to get her kids to stay on their own property and they disobeyed?
Is the family house trashed and the neighbors house in nice condition?
Is the shooter trash?
Is there a pattern of incidents?
Y’know, the kind of stuff a real journalist would ask out of curiosity.

According to the story, this was an ongoing issue and the police had responded “a half dozen times.”

You would think from reading that account, that the iPad hit the child (they would infer in the head or some other sensitive place) hard enough to break the screen, but for all the sterling reporting, it could have glanced off the kid's leg and hit the ground, breaking the screen, that is how much I trust the reporting.
Also, the article says: "...But the neighbor, a 58-year-old white woman, who was not named, had taken the iPad and threw it at one of Ms Owens' children, hitting the boy and cracking the screen, the attorney said. The mother-of-four then marched across the street to speak with the neighbor after hearing of the incident..."
Yet, further down, the execrable Crump says: "This is Ajike 'AJ' Owens - a mother of four fatally shot after she reportedly knocked on the door of a white woman's residence to retrieve her child's iPad."
So, did the woman who shot her throw the iPad at the kid, or did the enraged mother have to go back to that woman's house and retrieve it?
I am going to bet money that given the ongoing fued, that woman pictured wasn't calmly going up to that woman's door to ask for the iPad back, if that is even what happened. Given the history, the behavior of the kids is not a one time thing, and they were probably not innocently playing. As the police state: "...'Was something thrown at them?.' Woods explained. 'Yes, but not directly at them of what we're being told now. It just unfortunately may have hit them. The children are a big part of answering a lot of our questions..."
And there is this from the police: "...police understood a heated exchange that took place between Ms Owens and the neighbor, describing it as an 'aggressiveness back and forth from both of them'. Whether it be banging on the doors, banging on the walls and threats being made. And then at that moment is when Ms Owens was shot through the door..."
It sure sounds like this enraged mother "marched" across the road, and there was some kind of loud interaction, possibly with the enraged mother banging on doors and walls, with threats being made. You don't have to have a vivid imagination to at least have an idea of what was going on. If this is how it was, I sure hope this woman has a lawyer familiar with the nuances of firearm defense, because having someone banging on your door and walls and shouting out threats sounds like the woman who shot and killed her felt a real threat.
I am not saying that woman did or did not have the need to use a firearm and kill that mother of those kids.
What I am saying is in agreement with your post, that there is every indication this story is being groomed and composed to show a purely racial white on black killing.
According to the sheriff: “officers have responded half-a-dozen times to complaints about the ongoing feud since January 2021.”
So there is history.
And even before Florida's Stand Your Ground Law, there was no duty for a homeowner to flee their house to avoid a confrontation.
Still, shooting someone through a door seems legally risky. The homeowner may have not been thinking clearly.
There is guaranteed more to the story.
That is a very good point, something that stuck out at me.
However, I don’t think that is how it works. If you commit hostile actions towards someone and withdraw removing the threat, you cannot be shot in self defense.
But if you return and come at the person, pounding on the door shouting threats like “I’m gonna kick your ass” that is a “new” situation and is not tied to the old one of throwing an iPad at someone, who retreats and comes back.

The story may be true exactly as written, but there are details that seem a bit odd. Kids are playing in a field near their home and are told to clear off by mean old white woman. But they left behind an iPad. Who brings an iPad along to play in a field?
In their haste to follow the mean old white woman’s instructions, the iPad is left behind. So they return to fetch it. But mean old white woman’s eyes are so sharp that she saw the iPad in the ‘field’ and took it herself. When the mean old white woman saw the kids coming back for the iPad, she throws it at one of the kids so hard that it cracked the screen when it hit him. How exactly can you throw an iPad at someone to break the screen? Smashing someone with it, yes, but throwing?
Kids run back home to tell mom what has occurred. Angry mom marches over to her neighbors’ and gets shot. This part I can imagine, the rest, not so much.

Seems the one with the most to gain by lying, if anyone is would be the shooter.
They are the one who has something to actually lose at this point.
