RFK, Jr. makes a climate speech in Vermont -- and I was there: Eyewitness account suggests a formidable candidate, So what did the lefties do?

The 2023 summer solstice was marked in the Green Mountains of Vermont by a somewhat incongruous visit by Democrat presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

Addressing an audience of some 200 enthusiastic supporters on June 21 in Burlington, Mr. Kennedy’s subject for the evening centered on industrial pollution and his plans to improve energy efficiency through free markets.

But Vermont’s hills did not reverberate with approving liberal cheers for these sensible policy proposals: nary a Democrat was in attendance.

Bernie Sanders did not introduce the fast-rising Dem hopeful from Camelot; Peter Welch did not extend a red carpet. The event that platformed Kennedy was organized and hosted by the rather libertarian-leaning Ethan Allen Institute, an educational think tank focusing on free markets, individual liberty, and constitutional integrity.

Kennedy’s unconventional 2024 presidential campaign thus found a Vermont welcome in an unexpected forum.

The Ethan Allen Institute has maintained its non-partisan posture throughout three decades of policy analysis and research. A recent EAI event featured famed columnist George F. Will, and was largely attended by conservatives. A different cross-section of Vermonters gathered for RFK’s visit, hinting at the possibility of a growing alliance of populist support for an authentic maverick.

Speaking energetically in the low-ceilinged event room, Mr. Kennedy engaged the smilingly attentive crowd with a history of his legal battles against large industrial polluters challenging PCBs that tainted the Hudson River, and coal-burning plants that polluted the country with mercury. Mr. Kennedy’s passion and confident optimism held the room even for those who might disagree: there was no doubting the intensity of his sincerity.

how RFK does not match up with the modern-day positions

It's what you call "the modern day positions" that are the problem.

Our political system, and our country, have been taken over by a cabal of people who were "influencers" before the term was invented.

Do you not wonder why most elections are 49-51 or 51-49?

The "modern day positions" have been created and branded FOR THE PURPOSE of dividing ordinary Americans from one another and preventing an overwhelming consensus from emerging and driving our rulers from power.

Hell, if you look at Bill Clinton’s platforms from the 1990s. you’ll see a lot of things Trump champions. All that is called “ultra right wing” by the Democrats and their propaganda arm, the corporate media now as they shriek that its “fascist” and “hateful”.

JFK was a combat veteran, was tough on the Commies, cut taxes and was a lifetime NRA member. Democrats were not always the radical leftists they are today.

He may pull a few primary votes from Trump but those are votes Trump won’t need as he romps to victory easily.

In the general election, Trump is going to get a nice chunk of JFK voters.

IMHO, there is significant overlap between the parties attacking Trump and the parties attacking RFK jr.

Odd, isn't it?

Perhaps a lot of people - perhaps a majority - are outside the Democrat-Republican Venn diagram?

I was hoping he'd siphon some Dems from Biden like Bernie, but in fact he will likely siphon libertarians from Trump.

The Left doesn't want a clean environment or even justice, diversity, or equal opportunity for minorities.

It want pure Marxism.

I’d go to a RFKJ rally to show support, but in the end, he’s still a Kennedy and I trust him as far as I could throw Uncle Teddy. He’ll get moral support from me, but never a vote.

If RFK Jr can pull off a miracle and get the Democrat nomination, he will be the next President, and I say that as a Trump supporter.

The problem for him is that the democrats system is so rigged that even if RFK Jr were to get every single democrat primary vote cast, the superdelegates are the ones who pick the candidate, so even if every democrat voter were to vote for him in every state primary the superdelegates can still make Biden the nominee.

I’ve said it for a long time now, if RFK Jr can get his message out the voters will pick him, by a country mile. If he truly becomes a threat watch what they do to him, it will make what they have done to Trump over the last 8 years look like child’s play.

Oh what they will do to him will make what they have done to Trump for 8 years look like childs play.

The man hasn’t done anything yet, other than announce his candidacy and give some speeches and already they are declaring him a “threat to democracy”... took them years to reach that level of attack on Trump.

The Dems very well may be facing their own 2016, where the peon voters refuse to follow their script....

Sen Scott Brown (R-MA) was not as conservative as
we’d like but he did win Ted Kennedy’s former seat
after a Dem placeholder was put in for a few months.
One ad showed an image of JFK in “rising tide lifts
all boats” mode, fading away then blending into
Brown speaking. He wound up beating Martha Coakley
but lost to Lieawatha a couple years later.
In that 2010 original campaign the Dems ran an
ad, “Who is Scott Brown, really? A Republican..who
will set us all back. At times like these,
we don’t need a Republican...like Scott Brown.”
The argument has been made that JFK was at
least moderate.

In the ad they said “Republican” like it were
“Nazi”...

of course

even so, in terms of civil discourse, he is making a positive contribution and that is rare in American life today (faulting the left entirely here....the right has always been willing to engage)

Sorry, Trump would not courting those voters so hard if he didn’t think he needed them in primary.

“and the free market forces that must be harnessed to compel polluters to internalize the true environmental costs of their products.”

Translation - he’s I favor of carbon taxes on consumers and companies.

Also, intrestesting how he wants to “compel the free market”

In my book “compelling” and “free” are opposites. A compelled free market is not free.

Bingo. They figured out if you let the passengers vote on whether they will all eat chicken or beef for dinner, then they’ll argue about that forever and never ask where the train is taking them.
