San Francisco's downtown 'never going back to the way it was,' Salesforce's Marc Benioff says

San Francisco-based companies leaving The Golden City because of drop in revenue

...

San Francisco, California-based tech CEO Mark Benioff says the city will never go back to the way it was ...

...

Golden City is struggling to keep businesses intact, leaving many buildings vacant..

office vacancy rates in San Francisco were 24.8% in the first quarter, more than five times higher than pre-pandemic levels and well above the average rate of 18.5% for the nation’s top cities,

...

For San Francisco, the three-year exile resulted in empty storefronts with large "going out of business" signs hanging from windows.

Popular shops like Uniqlo, Nordstrom Rack and Anthropologie have left, toiletries like shampoo and toothpaste are locked up at pharmacies, and places like Gucci get hit by armed robbers in broad daylight.

...

cities that relied on tax revenue from those businesses are seeing their income dwindle and could respond by raising taxes and reducing services, which may make conditions worse for the residents who stayed put.

...

Benioff’s company is San Francisco’s largest employer and the anchor tenant of the tallest skyscraper in the city.

He recently said downtown is "never going back to the way it was"

...

Many businesses that made their mark on the world are being forced to shut down, though.

For example, Anchor Brewing Co., which opened during the California Gold Rush 127 years ago, announced last week it was shutting down due to a "combination of challenging economic factors and declining sales since 2016."

AT&T, Westfield and Nordstrom said last month it would be vacating their locations downtown, and Gap, which opened its flagship store in San Francisco in 1969, closed its flagship and Old Navy stores near Union Square.

So that means if you go there you don’t have to wear flowers in your hair?

... or go barefoot.

I would hope so, but then the state capital would do everything
in its power to defeat their efforts, to keep it from looking
like Conservative policy works.

May I suggest a law suit:

West Coast Women Office Workers Inc. vs. City of San Francisco

The tawdry, crime-plagued and hostile environment of San Francisco particularly discourages women from taking good paying jobs in the city and deprives women of equal opportunity employment.

“destroyed by city sanctioned
looting.”

Proposition 47 has been in effect for over eight years.

Californians could have voted to repeal it.

> Not as much tax revenue coming in. Hard to give reparations without businesses paying. <

I wonder if this Benioff guy has considered that. Progressives will not cut down on spending or abandon their crazy ideas. So they are going to have to raise taxes on the businesses that remain.

Giuliani did a good job reversing NYC’s decline in the 80s. It can be done.

But the culture and urban conditions today are far worse than they were in the late 70s and the whole “defund the police” movement has destroyed civilization in so many cities there may be no way back.

A hundred years ago it wouldn’t. But “progressives” are gaining ground in DC.
So I predict federal bailouts, sooner or later.

This means tax dollars from middle America will go to prop up these failed cities.

In 2-3 years, our federal debt will approach $40 Trillion. Annual interest on that debt will be $2 Trillion (+/-). We know that's not sustainable, as that amount is twice the current defense budget.

Everybody's ox will have to be gored. DC is clueless as to the calamity we're facing.

We need to wall off San Francisco and force the denizens to live in their own excrement lest the contamination of leftism spread even further. Let the once beautiful city serve as a warning to others.

If San Francisco has lost Benioff, it’s lost all of America.

It’s never been the same since the Great Earthquake of 1906, or so I’ve heard.

Time to double-down on stupidity. It’s what liberals do.

“Liberalism. But it’s funny, some here seem fixated on one, corrupt country that most Americans cannot even find on a map, while American cities continue to crumble on a daily basis - only posting on that subject. I wonder why?”

Maybe they feel that “it’s not their concern”.

Probably would remain in ruins indefinitely.
