People call me 'Never Trump,' but I was as Trumpy as the Trumpiest Trumper in 2015-16. Wore the red hat. Donated. In 2015, I argued in op-eds for TheBlaze and other places that Trump could win where no other Republican could. And he did, thank God.
So what happened? Why did I switch?
Things were going swimmingly for a while, for three years to be exact. As any of my columns or tweets from the time will prove, I was among Trump's biggest cheerleaders. Then Covid hit, and though I was frustrated with various aspects of the way he handled things, I continued to support him throughout 2020, because obviously Biden was a lot worse.
Then J6 happened and the worm began to turn for me. I realized Dems would play nonstop clips of the worst aspects of that riot in a 2024 rematch. I also saw Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis set himself apart as a leader willing to take bold stands and get important policy measures passed that conservatives in other states could only dream about.
Where Trump wilted on Covid, DeSantis learned, grew, and threw up a proverbial middle finger at the tyrannical biomedical establishment hellbent on using the virus as a vehicle to ever more power. He did it on masks, vaccines, mandates, treatments, all of it. It was a stark contrast that only the willfully blind wouldn't notice.
Then, DeSantis won a resounding reelection victory that should have made him the toast of the GOP. Except that, since he refused to rule out a presidential run, Trump's attacks - and lies - grew ever more bitter and unhinged.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.
Same here. Dr. Fauci and Dr Birx? What the h***?
“DeSantis obviously wasn’t some sort of RINO, establishment, globalist shill hellbent on doing the bidding of Paul Ryan, the Bush family, and George Soros”
His contributors obviously disagree.
This guy is FULL OF SH*T. He was NEVER a fan if he thinks Trump ‘lies’ all the time.
Trump is the most honest person who ever help office in my lifetime.
It must suck to be a sellout to the cabal.
Most of them are homos anyway.
Not for me. I wouldn’t vote for him now if my life depended on it. He would be GW 2
Which presidential candidates are calling them out now?
But DeSantis works for our enemy.
Trump should have kept his coronavirus briefings short. No more than 10-15 minutes. Daily updates with supplies are fine. Appoint a bunch of guys from the military to run the coronavirus taskforce. No civilians. No scientists. They're all politically biased (sad, the only good one was Dr. Atlas but Trump appointed him too late and that's when he lost the narrative).
DeSantis is proving to be a RINO to get to the national stage. He is/was awesome as Florida governor... and he might have made a good VP choice.
But he should have waited. ALL OF THEM should have backed Trump, after the way the media treated him.
can someone make the arguement for how trump will win the general?
Then enjoy 4 more years of Dem rule and a Dem Supreme Court.
Brilliant thinking.
Because he's already won it twice?
And stick it where the sun don't shine if you refuse to admit the second election was stolen for FJB.
Yes.
Florida does strike me as a Dem stronghold.
Brilliant observation.
Monday morning quarterback, I know. Trump was good in seeing the big picture. But he sucks with politics. And he's not good with personnel at all.
I wouldn't be so critical if he decides "okay I've had my turn, it's time for somebody to have a go at it".
But he's running again so he's opening himself up to criticism and yes, I have to analyze his past mistakes that ended up having us with the Biden Administration.
Never heard of the guy.
Not disagreeing about 2020.
How will Trump avoid having the same thing happen in 2024?
If Trump can’t beat senile Biden, then NO ONE can. This guy is an idiot. This guy assumes that someone else in the Republican Party can actually get the same Republican turnout as Trump. What an idiot. For better or for worse, Trump is the only one that can get the MAGA turnout (which is basically 80% of Republican voters). The question is…. It’s not “can Trump win”, it’s “will there be a fair election”. If not, then it doesn’t matter who wins the Republican nomination. If they can’t ensure a fair election in those 5 RAT counties in those 5 key states, then it’s Game Over.
