Maui wildfire death toll, already highest in modern U.S. history, could surge

LAHAINA, Hawaii — The windswept wildfires that scorched Maui last week were the deadliest in modern U.S. history. Authorities now fear that the death toll will only rise in the days and weeks to come, intensifying the pain of islanders already scarred by catastrophe.

At least 114 people have been confirmed dead, and officials say an estimated 1,000 more could still be unaccounted for, further complicating the arduous process of locating deceased victims and confirming their identities.

Mass murder by an open air incinerator just happened and nothing will be done about it.

Has the cause of the fire been determined?

I don’t know the situation there on Maui, but isn’t Hawaii
pretty much a Democrat enclave? It’s kind of interesting to
watch NBC herald a disaster on Democrat soil, so to speak.

Mentioning the death toll likely to climb, isn’t that
something the Leftists would generally avoid talking about
under this circumstance?

I guess the global warming angle is to irresistible.

Yes they will. This fire is blamed on climate change , so the deaths and destruction are blamed on climate change.

Which in turn will be blamed on Republicans and Donald Trump.

1000 missing is a little dubious. Most likely, they just left the island for one of the other islands.

A question, How?

By sailboat or propeller air plane?

Did you see the boats destroyed in Lahaina's harbor?

One would think they would get in communication with their loved ones by now.

Well evidently after October 8, 1871. That would be the date of the great forest fire in and around Peshtigo, Wisconsin. The number of killed is estimated to be between 1,500 and 2,500. Not heard of any mention of that little event by anyone in the MSN.

I don’t think we will ever know the true number of victims...

Population of the island is about 168K. Most live in the vicinity of Kahului population 28K, which has the airport and main harbor.

Lahaina is quite small, population of 12,702.

Although Lahaina was not the only fire, I’ve not heard that any of the more populous communities and/or infrastructure were burned. I’m sure the TV cameras would be there if they were.

https://travelsnippet.com/north-america/usa/how-to-travel-between-islands-in-hawaii/

By far the best way to travel between Hawaii’s islands is by plane. In almost all cases it’s also the only way to travel too. There are three main airlines that operate regular daily flights between Hawaii’s main islands, Hawaiian Airlines, Mokulele Airlines and Southwest Airlines. Each airline operates over a hundred flights a day between Hawaii’s islands and there are almost hourly flights between Oahu, Maui and Kauai. There are also daily though less frequent flights to the smaller islands of Lanai, Molokai and Kauai too.

The only folks who'll complain are the native Hawaiians who want independence. In that case, I support those guys. Hawaii is an one party state that failed them.

Maui will only get the middle finger from Biden because Obama couldn’t care any less and he is in charge. Obama only ever cared about himself.

Death count by media 114, but the locals, the people who LIVE there say over 450 by their count. Why the discrepancy?

There are way more victims. They are dragging it out until if fades off the front page. In two months, on a Friday evening, they will release the real totals and the Marxist State Media will ignore the 1,500 dead. The same as when some high profile junkie ODs ... autopsy results in six months.

“Most of the fires in Lahaina started in the afternoon/evening right? Why were there so many deaths? I could understand if it happened in the middle of the night when people were sleeping.”

The kids were sent home from school. They’d have been safe had they stayed at school. The parents didn’t know the kids had been sent home. They didn’t know there was a fire at home. The heart breaks and the tears cannot but flow at the realization of what happened to the kids. No sirens warned the population. The demonic fool in charge of water was saving the water for “when it was really needed.” There was no fire fighting. A ring of fire. If the fires started in more than one place pretty much at the same time, that pattern would match what has been the case in other fires starting at disparate corners of an area. California fires, Canadian fires, etc. I’ve read an estimate that the death toll if likely over 1,000 people. DNA might help identify some.

Thanks for the info. I hadn’t heard about the school children. I just thought the smoke and commotion would draw people out of their homes and sight of the fire would have sent them in the opposite direction.
