My high school was built in 1962. Not an old building compared to other high schools in the Houston area.
It was torn down and a new school was built next to the old site. It looks like a prison.
The reason the old school was torn down:
It was Robert E. Lee HS. Lee Generals.

NOW the indigenous people want to change the name of a forest because “Wayne” defeated indigenous people 200+ years ago. They can’t have it both ways, Don’t use our names and Don’t remind us we got our asses kicked 200+ years ago.

Rename it “John Wayne National Forest” and then you can keep most of the signs.
On the DC name change idea...I’d be fully for it. Some states should go and make this an agenda. Something like ‘Freedom-Town’ or ‘Honky-Tonk-City’ would be ok.
And Wayne State University.... maybe they’ll be Buckeye State.

As always, there is no nuance to the events of history in the view of some. Coming out of the Revolutionary War, the British were still trying to mess newly-minted USA. Men such as Simon Girty were used to amalgamate the aboriginals into a fighting force against the colonists in the Northwest Territories. After a stunning defeat at Fort Recovery under General St. Clair, where over 600 soldiers and scores of women and children were killed by Little Turtle and Blue Jacket, General “Mad” Anthony Wayne was sent in to end it. He did. The Indians were subjugated following his campaign.
