(U.S. Forest Service – Wayne National Forest) DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — The Wayne National Forest in Ohio could soon have a new name.

Members of the American Indian Tribes and the local community are requesting the U.S. Forest Service change the name of Wayne National Forest, located in southeastern Ohio.

According to the Forest Service, the name comes from General Anthony Wayne. He is said to have led a “violent campaign” against the indigenous community in Ohio.

The forest is expected to be renamed Buckeye National Forest.

“Our intention is to listen to Tribal Nations and community members, and take the actions needed to better serve them,” said Forest Supervisor Lee Stewart. “The new name embraces the forest’s identity as Ohio’s only national forest and the welcoming, inclusive nature of the people of Ohio.”

Ohio National Forest and Koteewa National Forest are also under consideration as potential new names for the forest

He brought them to their knees. It was a big win for us. The wild Indians in the east were quieted by the loss.

How many is an important context here.

Wayne County, Michigan is also named after General Wayne.

I wonder if they're going to change their name to "Buckeye County."

I'm sure the University of Michigan Fans in the county won't mind...

Are we going to have to change the name of the state as well?

“Ohio” was named after the river, which is from Seneca (Iroquoian) ohi:yo’, a proper name from ohi:yo:h, literally “good river.”

Eventually the names of many places will have to change.

Washington DC, after all Washington owned slaves.

District of Columbia refers to Christopher Columbus, who should be canceled per these leftists.

Columbia University needs to go.

What about Pittsburgh? Did William Pitt have a 21st century politically correct worldview? If not that cit has to change its name.

Any place named for any person, is subject to being changed.

If your name is “Wayne” it will be changed too.

Starting with Bruce Buckeye, Buckeye Newton, and John Buckeye Gacey.

As commander of the army, General Wayne would have been obliged to do what the president ordered him to do or resign. If the army under his command ever massacred any helpless, peaceful Indians, I haven’t heard of it.

I would like to see the name of Washington D.C. changed, but only because I don’t want to see the great name of Washington associated with that sewer of a city. If George were alive, I think he would be ashamed to have his name associated with that city.
