The first U.S. Abrams tanks pledged to Ukraine have arrived in the country and are being prepared to send into battle, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Monday.
“Good news from Defense Minister [Rustem] Umerov. Abrams are already in Ukraine and are preparing to reinforce our brigades. I am grateful to our allies for fulfilling the agreements!” Zelensky wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Zelensky added that Ukraine is “looking for new contracts and expanding the geography of supply.”
The Pentagon confirmed the tanks arrived in Ukraine, with a spokesperson saying “the mere presence of Abrams tanks serves as a potent deterrent.”
“By having these tanks in their arsenal, the Ukrainian army can more effectively discourage aggressive actions,” the Defense Department spokesperson told The Hill. “We will continue to focus on what we can do to help Ukraine succeed on the battlefield and protect its people.”

Maybe, maybe not. US weapons are designed around a warfare plan. That plan includes integration with air assets and information delivery via satellite and or global hawk. The Abrams tank has changed greatly since it’s first version rolled off assembly lines in the 1970’s. The original 105 replaced with 120 mm gun. The original 42 tons now 73 tons. The speed and range has been effected by the weight increase of the tank. The tanks are completely integrated with the battlefield and soldiers now.
Giving an updated Abrams tank to Ukraine, without air superiority, air support, integration, and global hawks would be something like getting a Ferrari with a Fiat engine. It just isn’t the same thing, nor will it perform to the high standards people expect.
I expect the Abrams model to perform somewhere behind the Leopard II and the Challenger if they give the 43 ton version. It will still have problems in minefields. It will be vulnerable to artillery, mines, and missiles/drones. One particular problem with the Abrams is the fact that you have to follow it with a tanker of fuel (it can run on gasoline, diesel, or jet fuel technically).
The one think about the Abrams, that the Russians are aware but shocks people in real life is the speed. You take the governor off that tank and it is incredibly fast, especially for short distances. If they breakout (that’s a huge if), they can move very quickly and could show up in surprising places.
I am not confident that it will change any part of this war if they only have the 43 ton version, and no air support.
They’ll be quite a trophy for the first to take one of them out. Probably already a spot for them in the Moscow Ukraine war display.

To believe that you’d have to believe the Ukrainians have not been trained to maintain them. You’re also ignoring thee fact that any major repairs usually mean pulling part, sending it back to depot and swapping in a replacement. No one does a transmission overhaul in the field.
The Abrams in Iraq were defeated by IEDs. Pack enough explosives in a hole in the ground and any armored vehicle is vulnerable, which is one reason why armor in a city or running the vehicles up and down the same road makes them so vulnerable. The Ukrainians have considerably more space to maneuver.
At this point, it's probably down to 50 cents.
In the notes I made after watching the video linked below, Poland and the US are backing away from the Ukraine but Nuland wants to escalate into WWIII as does Biden's handlers. I think Biden is only pretending to back away and encourage negotiations because of the public outcry. So now, as money is withdrawn, Biden/Nuland are going to try to escalate into WWIII.

Biden spoke but this time did not say that the US would back the Ukraine ‘for as long as it takes’.
Normally there is coverage of the UN meeting but this time, almost no coverage other than Milley announcing he’s retiring.
Poland and Zelensky are now trading insults. I’d read previously that Z was suing Poland over grain import/export and Poland scolded Z for that. Now POland says it will no longer give arms to Z.
Both men (video) believe that the Biden regime’s handlers would have had to have given Poland the green light to go after Zelensky like that, so that the US appears to be using Poland to pressure Zelensky to go to the negotiating table with Russia.
American attention is being shifted toward possible war with China and friction with Russia (apart from the Ukrainian situation).
Zelensky’s peace negotiations require Russia to leave every millimeter of Ukrainian land and past vast sums of reparations for damage done etc. so it’s not going to happen. Russia doesn’t have an incentive to back down.Nuland is everywhere pushing for escalation.
The US wants to save face by having Zelensky be the one to call for negotiations, as if America always stood by their ‘man’.
Mercouris (Sp?) thinks this might be the beginning of the end as pressure is on Zelensky to negotiate and support is drifting away. However, he notes that Nuland and neocons are pushing for escalation so it’s not clear what they will do to make that happen.

US Abrams crews are trained for 2 years, with constant exercises to maintain and improve operational ability. A few dozen Ukraine soldiers have been trained on these how long, exactly? MSM reports say "since the spring."
Simply put, Ukraine does NOT have the facilities or knowledge to maintain Abrams tanks. These things have turbine engines, which do not run on diesel. They will have tricky supply trains, and when one breaks down - it will need to be hauled all the way back to Germany for repairs. They also are, by all reports, the most stripped-down versions the US has. The Pentagon does not want any advanced models falling into Russian hands. The purpose of sending these tanks is PURELY for PR. To tell the Europeans, the Ukrainians and the World - "we are still in it" whether that is BS, or not. I realize another purpose of sending these tanks is to give encouragement and headline fodder to neocon trolls to continue to post their "wunderwaffen" BS on social media.
Tanks without air cover and battlespace management is problematic.
