Idaho GOP slams Rep. Simpson over speaker vote, says he has been in D.C. too long

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — The Idaho GOP has released a statement regarding Representative Mike Simpson not voting with the Republican mainstream in electing Jim Jordan to Speaker of the House.

20 Republican holdouts voted for people other than Jim Jordan, splitting the vote and leaving Jordan 17 votes shy of the 217 needed to secure the speakership. The IDGOP says in a statement that they have been "inundated with emails and phone calls from registered Idaho voters expressing their profound disappointment with Congressman Mike Simpson's decision today."

The IDGOP joined the growing number of frustrated Idaho voters expressing their disappointment in Simpson. "We would like to express our disappointment in our Republican U.S. Congressman Mike Simpson (ID-2) for not voting with the Republican caucus for Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House today. Our party has always championed fair and open deliberation, and it is disheartening to see one of our own Idaho congressmen deviate from a fair process to emphasize the same message as the radical Democrat members of the House."

Detractors point to a growing list of urgent matters that require the House's attention, including wars in Israel and Ukraine and inflation that remains stubbornly high. The House has ground to a halt for more than two weeks following the ouster of Speaker McCarthy, and the IDGOP rebukes Simpson for engaging in "inside-the-Beltway political games rather than focusing on the pressing business that truly matters to our constituents is disappointing."

Not mincing words, they say, "Representative Simpson has served in Congress for decades. Perhaps all this time away from Idaho has caused him to lose sight of the real work that Americans need on the important issues that impact them and their families."

The statement from the IDGOP ends with, "We urge our Congressman to reconsider his position and refocus his efforts on addressing the significant issues confronting our constituents — rather than waste his time engaging in protest votes and parliamentary delay tactics. The people of Idaho expect Mike Simpson to represent their concerns and prioritize their needs above political games and partisan divisions. The true measure of his success will be in his steadfast defense of the Constitution and the tangible benefits he delivers to the hardworking families of Idaho. We will be watching."

The RINO’s in Idaho need to go would Senator Mike Crapo like to explain his recent trip to China, South Korea and Japan.

As the ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee let me explain he went to countries that save money so a country that spends money can use it.

That’s my opinion of his junket with Chuck Schumer.

It seems to me that it is better to call the State GOP Offices about the GOP House Members that are voting against Jordan.

Calling a House Member is only heard by the Member’s staff.

Calling the State GOP Office gets heard by a lot of people.

Check for any big-time changes in his bank account. The lobbyists have been at work.

Red state. Cut the crap. Somebody needs to challenge him next year. He wouldn’t have done it if he were in trouble.

This is what needs to be done. The state GOP needs to censure these representatives. Their function is in their title REPRESENT. And stop representing the lobbyists

Joker? He maybe that but most of all he’s 🦏💩. I’ve vote against him in every primary. We haven’t rid ourselves of him yet.

Been in DC too long?

You’ll never get a straight answer but how long has the Idaho GOP been rigging the elections for him? Making sure he never has a challenger. And if he does, do they go about trashing the person, titling everything to the incumbent?

While it would only be symbolic, it would be nice if folks started a petition for any of these 22 to resign, as it’s apparent they’re not representing their constituents.

Let a strong majority of the people in his district sign a petition asking for his resignation and make it public. It’d be interesting to see how he’d respond.

Petition? They’ve been getting death threats. I think maybe going with someone not named Jim Jordan might be a good tactic at this point. What about Gaetz, he doesn’t have much to do, and started this whole thing off. He must have tons of support in the R caucus.
