Web Summit CEO Resigns After Comments About Israel

Paddy Cosgrave's resgnation comes after he tweeted that "War crimes are war crimes even when committed by allies, and should be called out for what they are."

Paddy Cosgrave, chief executive officer and founder of Web Summit, one of the biggest technology conferences in Europe, has resigned from his role as CEO after comments he made about Israel received pushback.

On Oct. 13, Cosgrave tweeted that he was “shocked at the rhetoric and actions of so many Western leaders & governments, with the exception in particular of Ireland’s government, who for once are doing the right thing. War crimes are war crimes even when committed by allies, and should be called out for what they are.”

He doubled down on his thoughts two days later, while also clarifying that what Hamas is doing is “outrageous and disgusting,” and an “act of monstrous evil.” But, he added, that Israel’s response has gone too far.

“Israel has a right to defend itself, but it does not, as I have already stated, have a right to break international law,” he tweeted on Oct. 15, explaining that Ireland found a path to peace during its war between Ulster Freedom Fighters and the Irish Republican Army (IRA).

Cosgrave’s resignation comes on the heels of several major tech companies including Google, Meta and Amazon, reportedly pulled out of the technology summit following his comments.

He announced he was stepping down from his role on Saturday, with a statement that was accompanied by a spokesperson’s noting the company will appoint a new CEO as soon as possible. Web Summit’s Lisbon conference will continue as planned in November.

“Unfortunately, my personal comments have become a distraction from the event, and our team, our sponsors, our startups and the people who attend,” Cosgrave wrote in a statement. “I sincerely apologise again for any hurt I have caused.”

Hamas sought out civilians to attack. They apparently think “collateral damage” is admirable.
Well, admirable in one direction only, it seems.
Sort of like … Democrat run cities. If you know what i mean.

“International law” is only what each independent country wants it to be, for them.

Unlike Hamas, Israel sent a warning. Stay as a human shield and don’t blame a nation that’s trying to clean out a rat’s nest that’s deliberately located where civilians are.

<< he added, that Israel’s response has gone too far. >>

It has barely commenced. Marxists, jihadists, and their bedfellows of all stripes will be triggered beyond belief in short order.

To everyone: You are free to walk down along the subway tracks between train arrivals but stooping down to put your tongue on the third rail is not advisable.

“I want to make some remarks about the Hamas/Israel situation. Gather around.”

Another: “Here are some jokes about women I heard at a bar. Some gals are gonna find these offensive.”

“Here’s why I think there’s a good side to Donald Trump.”

I agree with him and Ukraine is a PERFECT EXAMPLE of where this should be done.

Why are so many Irish anti-Semites? The streets of Dublin are overrun with Muslims, but all these stupid Irish do is bash Jews.

So, you think some countries should be charged with war crimes, but not others?

What’s the worst one can say about Israel and the Jews? The leftists amongst them condemn their own people while Hamas wants them nothing but dead. Could it be stupidity? Stupidity amongst the educated elite?

There could be a potentially great Jewish POTUS out there but who’d want to take the chance as they’re leftists first? That’s like thinking Obama’s election would bridge the racial divide. Let them contribute to this country without running it as many say they do already.

This crap is making no sense and antisemitism could be a 2 way street.

No, I also think that the US should be charged with war crimes for bombing Serbia, but we won’t be, same for Nordstream. Also that Hamas should be charged with the same for what they did on 10/7. And, if evidence can be found via an impartial investigation, then Russia should be charged with war crimes...but I have yet to see anyone in the West demand an impartial investigation of alleged crimes, so nothing yet in that matter. Obviously, of course, Ukraine should be charged with shelling Donetsk and their Bucha massacre (and if they want to deny Bucha, then they should permit an impartial investigation, but they refuse to do so).

Unfortunately not, which is why they’re hung up now.

The United States was not bombing Serbia alone, but they were certainly bombing Serbians. But there is no determination of guilt in Nordstream, you just think the United States is guilty of everything, Also, that would be a crime, not a war crime. What if it turns out Russia blew up Nordstream? Do they get a pass?

Do you think the U.S. should be charged with a war crime for Hamas' attack on Israel?

They just had to reserve a bigger venue.

Do you think Armenians should be charged with war crimes for defending themselves against the Russian ally Azerbaijanis?

There are results of investigations of Nordstream, but the results are ‘too sensitive’ to release. Do you REALLY think that they’re holding back to protect Russia. This one is a no-brainer, and the entire world, virtually, is LAUGHING at the claim that Russia did when they have a f’ing VALVE right on their soil.

As far as Hamas, it depends what we did to help Hamas. We know that Hamas has sworn to DESTROY ISRAEL, and I think we sent them money anyway, so you have that (enabling them). We also pressured Israel to let Hamas agents work in Israel itself, something like 30,000 of them at the end. That gave Hamas the local intel they needed for their attack...so you also have that. Did we hold back intelligence from Israel as the attack was about to start? Don’t know, but I wouldn’t put it past this Administration, given their hatred of Netanyahu. That should be investigated and people brought to justice if true.

Depends on the crimes. Indiscriminate mass killings of civilians is a war crime regardless of circumstances, for example.
