Ukraine says election of new U.S. House speaker won't affect future aid

(Reuters) - A senior Ukrainian official said on Thursday the election of Mike Johnson, a U.S. Republican who has been an opponent to Ukraine aid, as speaker of the House of Representatives would not affect Washington's vital assistance for Kyiv.

Johnson, who was named House speaker on Wednesday, told reporters he supported further aid to Ukraine "with conditions", with accountability and clear objectives from the White House.

O. Danilov, secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council, said Johnson's election was good for Ukraine because it ended a three-week leadership vacuum in the House.

"I'm more than sure that cooperation will continue, assistance will continue," Danilov said in televised comments.

"The statement made by the speaker that they would like to check the assistance they provide – this is a completely natural thing. We're happy to provide all information about the aid, there are no secrets."

I’m confident in my little world that my congresscritter will not vote for any aid to Ukraine. He has yet to do so. Now if he could be convinced to vote against aid to Israel, that would be a victory. My grandchildren shouldn’t be debt slaves when Israelis can go into debt to purchase arms and munitions with their own borrowed money.

The arrogance of this guy is astounding. He doesnt talk like someone
who’s trying to protect “democracy” from those big, bad Ruskis.

All he wants is the billions.

American taxpayers can go fly a kite for all he cares about “govt of, by, and for the people.”

All the right in the world, according to their operatives who post here. In fact, no one else has any right to question it according to them.

**What right do Ukraine boneheads have to say anything about the US and our money and how it’s spent?!**

Probably it is considered pay back.. Money laundering.

Now if they are dealing with the Speaker, he can rightfully say no.

But dealing with Joe biden, he took their bribe money and he’s been paying them ever since.. With government tax $$$$.

And government won’t do a thing to Joe or what he’s done.. Border wide open.. They let all and anyone in.. Invasion.. And then they warn us terrorists in our country.. Be careful.

They like to say the law applies to everyone.. Oh sure it does.. They are after anyone but their protected criminals.. And we are not safe in our land.

I have family in El Paso.. They say it’s a war zone there.

can go into debt to purchase arms and munitions with their own borrowed money...

For us and Israeli's, it's not 'borrowed' money, it is printed fiat. The difference in my mind, borrowed implies there will be payback. Given that it is printed out-of-thin-air fiat by central banksters, it will never be paid back. Not a plug nickel (see Grace Commission).

Despite the economic realities of fiat currency, my desire for Israel to pay its way is a fundamental principle that I have in foreign policy. That principle is that allies are stronger when they defend themselves. They make better friends that way. They have to make choices between social programs and defense programs. Our military support subsidizes socialism. That in itself makes nations weak. It is also not good for trade and puts us at a disadvantage since we pay for ourselves and our trading partners.

America has become the protector of allies when they are capable of defending themselves. Israel is actually does a very good job at their own defense. Europe, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines and others are capable of their own defense but neglect doing so because we pay the way. We should be the last resort to these nations, very much like with England in WW II.

This is not isolationism. It’s all about having more equal partners, particularly in peace time.
