The Danish company Ørsted announced Tuesday night it will “cease development” for what was slated to be New Jersey’s first offshore wind farm, as well as plans for its second project.
It’s a blow to Gov. Phil Murphy’s ambitious clean energy goals and a stunning development for environmentalists supporting the energy alternative, once thought to be operational at the Jersey Shore between 2025 and 2026.
Murphy blasted the company’s decision in a statement, calling it “outrageous.”
The development arrives four months after the Democratic-controlled state Legislature passed a bill that Murphy, a Democrat, signed into law allowing Ørsted, the largest offshore wind developer in the world, $1 billion in tax credits to help keep the Ocean Wind 1 project afloat.

Murphy said in his statement that Ørsted’s decision to “abandon its commitments to New Jersey is outrageous and calls into question the company’s credibility and competence.”
“As recently as several weeks ago,” Murphy said, “the company made public statements regarding the viability and progress of the Ocean Wind 1 project.”
...
In the Garden State, long seen as a leader on wind energy, Murphy has repeatedly in recent months said he was optimistic the project would still come to fruition despite cost concerns.

This is very good news for the whales and dolphins in New Jersey waters. The sonar and construction noise to install these wind turbines has been causing the sea life to beach themselves in excessive numbers this past summer.
Private enterprise meets soviet central planner
“Ha Ha! Governor Murphy thought he could point to his “success” with wind power in New Jersey when he makes his run for President.”
**************
Well that and the loss of future campaign money from the beneficiaries of his political support for the industry. There’s always a money angle.
No wind farm = no grift. Of course Murphy is angry.
At least their will be fewer dead whales washing ashore.
It is “outrageous” that they would consider P&L, technical feasibility, and risks. Why aren’t they good communists like us? Why aren’t they willing to take a cold financial bath to further the Revolution? Ørsted is run by outrageous running dog lackeys.
couldn’t he just use his own money, start his own company and get it done on his own dime? can’t POSSIBLY be that expensive...right? oh wait...it’s new jersey, famous for construction overruns in the MILLIONS! guessing the company that pulled out realized that with all of the palms that would need greasing there wasn’t any room left to make a decent profit.
No wind farm = no grift. Of course Murphy is angry.

heads up
I was thinking the same thing. SAVE THE WHALES!
He is jealous that NJ doesn’t have Oil and Gas and want to get rid of what they don’t have.
Like Solyndra all over again
Because “Oil and Petrochemical Refinery State” wouldn’t fit on a license plate?
No No No. Global warming is causing the problems with the whales. This project will save the world's sea life. /sarc
All the profit in wind energy comes from government subsidies, but right now, interest rates are burying the subsidies. Add that to the problems with wind energy not being available when and where it is needed and industry warnings from the early nineties are coming back to haunt environmental con men.
In WA, you can add the problems with protecting whales and salmon to the off shore wind energy hypocrisy in addition to the fact that we have more available hydro-power than we need.
Cetaceans haven’t been this happy since the megalodon went extinct.
Murphy is pissed because he will lose millions on his cut from the deal.
If this were not a Demonic endeavor, the solution would be to elect Trump, regain energy independence, and tell the EV and other "green energy" companies, "no more tax incentives!"
Then Larry Fink (BlackRock) can decide whether to continue their ESG crap.
“The sonar and construction noise to install these wind turbines has been causing the sea life to beach themselves in excessive numbers this past summer.”
This was my thought when the very first whale washed up.
Sorry Murphy.... there will be NO GRAFT TO BE HAD! :)
These are idols to their earth worship.
