House Republicans approved legislation Friday that would slash nearly 40 percent of the budget for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The funding bill, passed by a 213-203 vote, cuts 39 percent of the EPA’s budget and would be the smallest budget the agency has had in three decades. Republican Reps. A really good start would be to completely defund the entire list, and only re-add what is specifically needed. Every government agency should sunset every 5 years, and require a specific action of congress to be reconstituted.

That’s just a list to choose from. But a good acid test is: if you haven’t heard of the organization then it should be shuttered.

Which agencies do you approve of? The Constitution lists a few, but they are on your proscribed list.

About time. Congress has abdicated its responsibility of oversight on many agencies, including, but not limited to, the EPA. As a result, the EPA has stifled many worthwhile projects through bureaucratic regulation, from the XL Pipeline project to the use of regulatory edicts to close down electrical power projects that are crucial to future well-being. The EPA plows through more than $53 billion using 16,000 employees with questionable success other than raising the cost of fuel to American taxpayer.

I like it.

I still remember when the EPA inspectors intentionally opened a mine tailings sump in Colorado against the advice of State engineers and contaminated the entire river course downstream from the mine. Nobody got fired from that debacle.

Gut that agency.
