Record numbers of Canadians died through euthanasia in 2022
Mercator ^ | November 3, 2023 | Michael Cook

In 2022, 13,241 Canadians died through Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) – 4.1% of all deaths. The advance of MAID has been astonishing. Since euthanasia and assisted suicide were legalised in 2016, there have been 44,958 MAID deaths. About one Canadian in 25 dies after a lethal injection. It took Belgium and the Netherland about 20 years to reach this level of normalised euthanasia – it has taken Canada only seven years.

Bioethics commentator Wesley J. Smith noted in a column in the National Review that “If the same percentage of people were killed by doctors in the USA as are in Canada, that would amount to about 140,000 homicides annually. That’s about as many people as live in cities such as Waco, Texas, or Fullerton, Calif.”

Covid vaccines, legal suicide.

Those folks will reach their population goals of 500 million if they keep at it.

Yup. I’m guessing that Canada is on track to be the coldest Islamic country on the planet.

So to really understand this story, I would need to know

(a) how is 45k people over ten years 1 in 25 of Canadians, a nation of 35 million people (1 in 25 is 4%, 4% of 35 million is 1.4 million) and

(b) if we assume there is no such program in America, do U.S. doctors ever assist their patients to die?

There is also the question of how many of the Canadian “victims” would have lived any length of time longer, let’s say three months, and with what quality of life?

If we are talking about assisting this any people to avoid a month or two of pain and suffering, then is it as draconian as it sounds? I am not sure how any of these cases were in any way recoverable. At the same time I don’t support the idea of a government-sponsored early dying program but in reality, have hospitals and doctors not been engaged in this for decades?

Anyway, the math of this article needs some work or better explanation. 45k even if we assume a static population for eight years is 1 in 800, not 1 in 25. And it would be 1 in 6400 each of the years.

I guess they were saying 4% of all deaths, not 4% of all Canadians. Anyway, it’s also legitimate to ask, did any die after not giving full consent? (full informed consent to meet a legal standard?) ... some people do prefer death to an undefined period of pain and suffering without hope of recovery. I don’t know what choice I would make, would depend on all circumstances. It’s easy to say you should choose suffering, if you are in good health and it’s only an academic question.

That’s the equivalent of 112,000 Americans per year.

a, is 4.1% of all deaths over those years, not population b, no program but just stand there and don’t drop the gun or having the right prescription.

the trouble is the government getting involved, a veteran was wanting help with an unmanageable medical problem and the office worker forwarded him to the assisted death line. also orphan kids with stress problems

California (a larger population than Canada) has a similar program, also started in 2016.

For 2022, CA had 853 assisted suicides.

Then I would suggest it’s not that similar a program.

Correct. There are stories where people seek help who are suicidal and they are *told* to kill themselves and offered “help” on how to do so vs. being referred to counseling.

That is one messed up country and I fear we are just steps behind them.

I read it as 1 in 25 deaths are assisted, which would be the 4% mentioned in the article.

Yes this practice is worse than it sounds. It is evil. The slippery slope of who should die is next. My friend who is a quad. He uses up a lot of State money. It would be much cheaper for Scott to just die. Or take my sister. She thought that my parents were old enough. “just let them die”.

The farther people get from God, evil fills the void.

I will say this: In Gaza you cant tell who is Hamas, so they all must be assumed to be Hamas and treated as such.
