How is it folks would like disease data to be gathered from overseas if not this?
There are alternatives, including gather no data and know nothing of imported diseases from Europe or Asia.
I don’t see anything in the article about restricting deplaning unless people agree to the sampling. I would envision they have a table set up and a guy walks up to deplaning passengers and asks. The person says no and walks away. The next one says no. The next one says no. Finally, he gets a yes, maybe 3 yes answers from 200 people. Done.
Note this would be before border control. The border control queue is people from all planes, so they would not be able to sample the desired country.
I don’t see the problem here. Just say no and walk away to border control. Otherwise say yes. What is the problem? And no, don’t reply with imagined scenarios of nasal swab at gunpoint. Nothing says that in this article . . . and you know what? If Italy was infected with something killing 60% of those who do get infected, you would be INSANE to let anyone on that plane from Italy get through border control.
