There was a thread here not too long ago about Disney wanting to dump ESPN, but no one seemed interested.

I remember that. I think it had an estimate that without non-sports fans' subsidizing it on their cable bill ESPN would cost about $40 per month for subscribers. I like sports, but there is no way I could justify that much just for ESPN.

I have a feeling that we are reaching "peak sports" where the amount advertisers and networks can afford will drop and therefore players' contracts will have to drop.
