Children who grow up in politically liberal households are more likely to suffer mental health problems than their conservative peers, according to a new study.
An Institute for Family Studies-Gallup report found that "political ideology is one of the strongest predictors" of which caregiving styles a parent adopts, and conservative parents are associated with the best mental health outcomes for their children.
"Conservative and very conservative parents are the most likely to adopt the parenting practices associated with adolescent mental health," study author Jonathan Rothwell, who is also the principal economist at Gallup and nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, wrote . "Liberal parents score the lowest, even worse than very liberal parents, largely because they are the least likely to successfully discipline their children."
Conservative parents have several key distinctions in their relationships with their children that inform mental health outcomes, Rothwell explained, including being able to "effectively discipline their children, while also displaying affection and responding to their needs." The right-leaning parents also have better quality relationships with their children, "characterized by fewer arguments, more warmth, and a stronger bond."
Political ideology is just one predictive factor in the overarching conclusion of the study , which is that having high-quality relationships between children and their parents is the most important factor in achieving positive mental health outcomes.
The study comes as adolescent mental health has plummeted over the course of the last decade, a free fall marked by increased suicide, depression, and anxiety, among other problems.
While the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics have offered recommendations like better funding for psychiatric services, the study notes the CDC's solutions "almost completely ignore the most important known determinant of youth mental health: parent-child relationships."
The best mental health results come from "warm, responsive, and rule-bound, disciplined parenting,"

Well said.
Kids forced to eat ze bugs. They gotta love that.
I will only say on this forum that this study matches my experience exactly. There is a lot in this article that goes beyond politics.
I will add that “conservatives” tend to have a “trust G-d” attitude about things, which in my experience gave my healthy, high-performing kids the chance to simply grow, have fun, make mistakes, and be themselves. “Liberals” carry a great deal of angst, which is a side-effect, I think, of having to constantly hate, divide, and believe in lies.
I see and hear them pass those dark clouds on to the lives of their children, filling them with strange responsibilities and a daily dose of public enemies along with invented virtue.
There are always exceptions, but the children of my friends who dived hard left are children with known, declared mental health issues, to a one.
Advice to kids as I gave and give and live it:
Work hard, Love G-d, be loving and charitable, don’t beat yourself up when you make honest mistakes (I won’t be mad at you, either,) don’t worry too much when we, or you, don’t have any money, and have fun! Life is short.
Sad, but true.
Normal people are too busy to have the luxury of having a mental disease. Too much dam stuff to do.
The one good thing about transmania is that they probably won’t *have* kids. After a few visits to the Gender-Affirmation Clinic of Dr Moreau, they won’t have the equipment to reproduce. Cruel, perhaps, but for the good of the species, a blessing in disguise.
“Why is not totally known but food sharing is one of our oldest rituals for a reason.”
I wonder if it’s the actual bread breaking or that a time is set aside every evening for the family to be together?
Yeah! I broke out of the nut house on my own.
Even if it is done in silence it does something to our brains to sit down with others and eat together. And we all do it.
All societies have the custom of coming together for a communal meal. Afterwards there may be talking or story telling or partaking in some other ritual but the meal seems to be the important part. We may work, sleep and pray alone but meals we eat together.
It seems to be as much part of what makes us human as cooking does.
Ping
In other news, water is still wet.
Many mental illnesses have a genetic component, so that’s not surprising at all.
With LEFTIST parents, not liberal. Liberal is the nice sounding term they have given themselves. Liberal implies openness, acceptance. They are the exact opposite, they try to absolutely destroy all opposing views.
I bet that study ACTUALLY showed children with leftists parents are more likely to suffer mental problems,
