What would we ever do if we had a year with NO NEW LAWS?

Unfortunately, that won't happen because in the mid-1960s, Assemblyman Houston Flournoy (R-Pomona) pushed through a law giving California a full-time legislature. He was proud of that accomplishment, but I think it has been an unmitigated disaster. Now in session full-time, our legislature deluges us with wacko-woke laws.

Ex-californian here. I watched this happen, real time. So many otherwise intelligent people thought that this was a good idea. It didn’t take long for them to change their minds, after it was too late. I was a teenager at that time so I really had the opportunity to really take it in and understand. I have been saying this full time legislature is the reason California was destroyed for a very long time.

Full time state legislatures are a disaster everywhere they are used. Those busybodies need to feel like they are “doing something” and all they can do is pass laws harassing the citizenry. Wiki says “The California state legislature is one of just ten full-time state legislatures in the United States.” I thought there were a lot more than ten.

I didn’t realize that Houston Flournoy pushed through the law creating a full-time CA legislature.

Here’s a personal tidbit: Wiki says Flournoy was “Born in New York City, he attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he was active in the Cornell University Glee Club and the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He studied under Clinton Rossiter, a Cornell faculty member who was an authority on The Federalist.”

I went to Junior High School with and was friends with Dr. Clinton Rossiter’s son, Caleb. We lived in the same neighborhood not too far apart.

Small world!
