We had a pistol target range room downstairs (underneath 3 gymnasiums) with an underground track and batting cages in the highschool I attended. Teachers armed OK.
The JayCees used to run gun safety classes when I was a kid. I started in 3rd grade, with general gun safety and at the end of the 8-week course, they let us finally shoot the BB guns. The next year, still on BB guns, we were taught the basics of target shooting and gun care. It wasn’t until I was in 5th grade that they let us shoot their single-shot .22s.
Of course, this was at a time when they would let us bring our shotguns to high school during pheasant season, since there wasn’t much time between when school let out and sundown.
We never had any problems, including threats, that involved guns, and there were only a few fights and little theft.
Or, give them MMA lessons...
Even today, many thousands of kids under 16 take Hunter Safety courses in order to qualify for firearms deer season hunting.
We do in the Military.
Im sure all the current 20 something’s will scream bloody murder over this but back in the day, school would teach kids to shoot.
MSN and “Journalists” like David Edwards are the reason young Americans should be taught Firearms Safety and Usage Training.
At my school I suggested to a board member that limited access to firearms be allowed.
I suggested either keep 1-2 revolvers in quick safes and only select trained staff have the code. Or failing that 1 trained and armed guard be stationed at each school. Later on the Superintendent personally came up to me and said “we don’t want to be that kind of school” I assume he meant one that has a sort of gun culture.
Since there there have been a slew of school shootings just none at this school and I’m glad.
Archery, hunting and shooting competition are popular electives for 9-12 here.
Biden no longer allowing Department of Education to fund it nationwide. Republicans stomped their feet about it but ban is still enforced.
The high school I attended, they had a gun range in the basement.
Murder and attempted murder mean bullying 2023...
Take your kids out of school already… jeez.
