Massachusetts considers trust funds for the state's poorest newborns to help 'shrink the racial wealth gap'

Massachusetts is considering trust funds, aimed at reducing the racial wealth gap, for the state's poorest newborns that the recipients would be able to access when they turn 18.

The "baby bonds" would be an at-birth publicly funded trust fund program for Massachusetts residents, to be used for college, buying a home or starting a business. The amount given to each eligible newborn would depend on their household income, although it doesn't give a maximum amount or specify who would qualify for the funds.

"Children born into households with low income (which are disproportionately households of color) are prioritized through eligibility requirements set by the state or through a progressive allocation system, with those with the lowest income receiving the largest investments," the Massachusetts state government says on its website. "This is to provide the most support to children born with the least resources, and to shrink the racial wealth gap."

"Flee Massachusetts."

Not me, I'm moving there. I hear money grows on trees in the paradise of Massachusetts.

I stopped at a convenience store while on the road the other day. Two sodas, and two bags of chips cost $13.

When the cashier rang it up, my eyebrows hit the roof and I involuntarily blurted out “What the hell?” She involuntarily laughed when she saw my face screw up.

$13 for two sodas and two bags of chips.

Yeah. The economy is doing better that S**t For Brains Biden gets credit for.

Especially since those kids will likely never see a dime.

Or might see pennies on the dollar if they vote a certain way.

Trust fund, my derriere.

Exactly what I was thinking. These kids need to learn a trade; they don’t need college.
Make the money available for trade school only. Nothing else. If they don’t show for their training, the money stops. The program should operate like scholarships.

you make a valid point about just giving the poor handouts.

WIC is unique in that for money given specifically for pre natal care and the infant it is time limited and avoids a child born w complex medical needs.
further it reduces the mother considering abortion.

any pregnant woman should also be given free pre natal alcohol/drug addiction programs if she is an addict..including supervised housing. very cost effective for the tax payor..as fetal alcohol syndrome is a huge problem for the life of the child.

Most all govt assistance for poor people is counter productive, I agree.

but the 2 above programs pay the taxpayor a lot in the long run.
