MASCOTTE, Fla. —
A 16-year-old was shot and critically injured during a home invasion, Mascotte police say.
Police say the teen who was shot may have tried to break into at least two homes.
According to officials, Mascotte officers responded to an in-progress home invasion at Pine Needle Drive just after 6 a.m. on Dec. 28. There, they located a teenage male suspect who was shot by the homeowner.
The suspect was treated by Lake County EMS before being transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center. Officials say he is listed in critical condition.
According to officers, nobody in the home was injured and they are cooperating in the investigation, so they won't be facing any charges.
Officers believe the suspect may be linked to an earlier call of a young man attempting to break into another residence in that area. This is an ongoing investigation.
The headline tells you the ethnicity of the perp and the homeowner without telling you.

A pretty bold thing to do at 16, especially in the “Gunshine” State. If the perp lives, he needs to thank God for his intervention and turn his young life over to Christ. The next time he won’t be so lucky.
He should face even more severe punishment as a warning to others not to repeat his mistake. Let him get well...then the law should be changed to allow something pretty rough to happen to him after that.
I have no sympathy for someone breaking into an occupied building, day or night.
If the perp is black, stand by for “Hands up, don’t shoot” riots.
Race of perp is not reported so it’s highly likely that he is black.
This is Florida so this may be true.
But if you are in the position of these home owners, remember, cooperate only after you have talked with and have your lawyer present.
The police are not your friends and have no interest in seeing that you get justice.
When you call the police tell them no more than that you have shot an intruder and your address.
If the intruder is obviously dead or incapacitated, unload your weapon and sit aside and wait for the police.
Tell the police that you feared for your life and that you will answer questions only after you have your lawyer present.
If they follow legal protocol they will ask no further questions.
If they do continue to ask questions just keep saying that you want a lawyer.
Calling young thugs “teens” makes them seem more innocent than they are.
” ... tell them no more than that you have shot an intruder and your address ...”
THIS IS TERRIBLE ADVICE.
Only tell the police that there has been a shooting at this address.
The real shame is this piece of trash is consuming medical time, energy and supplies.
His age makes no difference. He knew what he was doing. The article uses the word “teen” a lot to elicit sympathy. Didn’t work.
“teens” has been a news media code word for black for nearly 20 years now.
Like Grady Judd says (paraphrase): Shoot ‘em out the door!

There’s probably a lot of good loot to be had, this time of year. Ammo makes a good stocking-stuffer.
Homeowner needs to up his target practice.
In most of Florida, we have Constitutional Sheriffs like Grady Judd in Polk and all of our Sheriffs up here in the Panhandle. Someone breaks into your house, they’re perfectly fine with shooting them dead..This ain’t Miami.
