Ron DeSantis is seeking an 'off-ramp' from his 2024 campaign, according to reports, following a disappointing performance in Iowa - buoyed by the promise from Trump supporters to back him in 2028.

Speaking on Tuesday in South Carolina, DeSantis said that Trump voters in Iowa had told him they would support him in four years.

'They were coming up to me saying, "We want you in 2028, we love you, man," he said.

He told a similar story on NBC News.

Andrew Romeo, the DeSantis campaign's communications director, said DeSantis was in the race 'for the long haul,' through South Carolina and beyond.

If DeSantis wanted to stick together like dems do...he should not have run against Trump. Now that it is too late he needs to bow out and give all his support to Trump so we can defeat the left as should they win our country is over. Instead, he makes trouble and I agree a Democrat would not do this because they stick togeter...ask Bernie.

I think DeSantis torched his chances beyond repair for 2028.

His actions this year have not been becoming to someone running for office.

DeDeepstate has destroyed any chance he ever had of being President just like Ted Cruz did. I would never vote for the little weasel for any reason.

Let’s see who Trumps picks for VP first. Let Florida do Florida.

His handling of issues there was stellar. His idiotic campaign for POTUS was like an SNL skit gone wrong.

DeSantis is term limited as governor.

Now you see why this disastrous campaign was so critical for his future.

I criticize our own folks because I want them to do better.

I believe in tough love.

"Trump has no chance in the general, I wish I had better news."

You're just an ordinary plain-blue TDS jackleg jerk0ff since the day Trump announced in 2015. Trump lives rent-free in your head 24/7. Big deal. Nothing special about your FReeptardism. You were wrong then, you were wrong now.

So,big that they would never take a VP slot much less a cabinet position.
Well, except the likes of Hillary but she’s a alcohol soaked corrupt opportunist has been skank.

I am a white woman and my family and white women friends like Trump. Even the ones that weren’t liking him now want him back because their lives were better with him running things.

That guy Ron was the worst candidate ever. He was not liked by many. He had no chance of winning which has already been proved.

The best he did was beat Charlie Crist and that ain’t saying much.

The fact he had a law changed to save his job when he loses was proof he was never committed or trusted himself and was most likely running to help the GOPe get rid of Trump.

Boy was that a major fail. If he ever tries this again he needs to get some self help with his personality and demeanor.

> the majority of GOP primary voters instead belittled him as “meatball” and decided to throw their lot behind a bloviating geriatric circus clown.

Whew, your Trump Derangement Syndrome is off the charts today.

Face it. DeSantis squandered all the good will he built up with his work in Florida on a weak, poorly run campaign, couldn’t handle events or the press, and blew 130 million dollars.

The problem was never GOP voters. WE know what’s going on! And we know a phony when we see one.

Also, white women are not fans of Trump. They voted for him in '16 over Hillary. But they rejected him in '20.'

Nope! A majority of us white women proudly voted for Trump in '16 and '20!

Is that a exit poll? Anyway, even if the things remained the same in '16 and '20, one difference was that Trump lost support from white women in the suburbs of critical cities in swing states.

And that's the election right there.

Trump's victory in 2016 was quite narrow. It was an electoral college victory and he did not have the popular vote. He couldn't afford to make mistakes in 2020. Then covid hit. And the rest is history. Monday morning quarterbacking.

No senate run either.

“blew 130 million dollars”

I am hearing DeSantis 300 million dollars. I guess we will have to wait for him to withdraw and get the final numbers.

I'm still thinking that President Trump might give DeSantis a shot at Attorney General in 2026 to set him up for a 2028 run.

That said, it's true that his VP pick will be best position to succeed him, and two Floridians would never be on the same ticket.
