As a merchant mariner and rescue diver I am not really buying this.

A "swell" took out a USN SEAL as he was attempting to board a boat?

...And two lives, the lives of two capital swimmers and operators, were lost on the surface?

And there's a mind-bogglingly massive search radius on what MUST have been a pinpoint target?

I hear Carter: "There is a deeper failure than incomplete success..."

...And I am not buying it.

This incident is strange. The thing that might have happened is during the “swell” one was knocked unconscious. But after that not much makes sense.

The search radius thing is puzzling.

CENTCOM officials stated the search for the two included “airborne and naval platforms from the U.S., Japan, and Spain,” collectively covering over 21,000 square miles.

That has to be a typo. 2,100 I can understand, sort of.
