Yep, carry on.
I think it’s more than a possibility but we shall see indeed. Biden specifically asked for this aid. But Biden wants it all jumbled up in a big package - for different reasons at first, but now in part because it gives him some “cover”. Johnson took away that cover. He says we’ll consider all of it but each on its own up and down vote. This is politics and there is a strategy, I think, to enlarge the gulf inside the Dem party. It was Biden’s mistake and Johnson is exploiting it. Now with far left protesters on the streets, Michigan in play for Trump, and Johnson is doing his bit for the party. Heck even Trump thinks NY can be won (though that’s probably a lot of bravado but Biden boxed himself into this political issue). Again Biden asked for this aid. Schumer wants this aid. Johnson is forcing them to take it, or flip flop. Neither is a good option for them.
I am confused, I thought we wanted to bomb you know who back to the stone age.
IF ISRAEL GETS MONEY, IT SHOULD COME OUT OF THE UN BUDGET.
And this aid is just one wedge issue. Immigration is a much bigger wedge issue. We’ll see how Johnson handles it. The Senate is trying to ram its own version through hopefully Johnson can bury that and forcefully put his own view on the table. All to force the Democrats to own their mistakes. The Senate GOP and maybe a few in the House seem hell bent on bailing the Democrats out of their messes. It’s political lunacy. If I’m right about Johnson he’s playing this exactly right. If only the party will back him.
Thier is the risk that Schumer could take it, and try to jam the House.
AFTER HOUSE SPEAKER MIKE JOHNSON PUSHED THROUGH ISRAEL AID PACKAGE, AIPAC CASH CAME FLOWING IN

>I’m betting it will pass with Dem support.
Which won’t help Biden next November.
Ukraine is the problem.
Biden knows his bill is dead. And anyways...Schumer is making the decision....
I don’t see how but I am open to hear about it. Biden and Schumer desperately want that Ukraine aid. If they take Israel aid as a stand alone package they know that Ukraine aid is likely DOA. It will force a national debate much like the debate on this thread about why we should fund it, what our strategic and political goals are, what victory looks like, is it even attainable, when, and what comes after - and of course can we afford it, how do we pay for it, and what we get out of it. It also opens the door to Trump and his first impeachment - just how corrupt a place is Ukraine and why are Biden and the Democrats trying to silence that question. They don’t want those conversations.
I do think TPTB have somewhat resigned themselves to the idea that Ukraine aid is a non starter. Notice that they went and got the EU to approve a $60 billion package on their own. The spectre of Trump looms over that one too. If we put up the money in last year, Europe never would have put real money in. And now Trump can say “see, they do have the money to fund NATO after all.” Biden is proving Trump right again and again and again - on the border, on aid to Israel and the Palestinians, and on Ukraine. I really do think Johnson is setting the traps for the Democrats that can be exploited by Trump and result in, hopefully, Congress and the WH going to the GOP in November. I could be wrong but that’s how I see it right now.
I suspect this is more about a potential Hezbollah attack than Hamas.
Compare those numbers you posted to Hezbollah’s inventory.
And in any event, Biden is publicly pressuring Israel, while Congress passes more weapons support, and I think that’s the idea, ie., we don’t REALLY want Israel to have to negotiate with Hamas (who would kill every non-Muzzy and quite a few “soft” Muzzies if they had the means.)
It won't hurt him. It's the same funding that is in his cr** bill which is DOA in the House.
That was over a long period of time - mostly used up now.
There are a lot of reports out there that Israel is in serious trouble, economically speaking. (Cost of the war, cost of people out of the economy and now active military, cost of displaced citizens, cost of loss of Pali labor...)
Johnson is doing just fine. He may wind up being one of the best Speakers in our history.
If Israel is Globalist give them UN money but I’m not a Globalist I’m a Zionist.
I don’t think Schumer is as hot for the Ukraine aid as we think. But he is hot for Israel...and he has no choice but to be hot for OUR border.
Something like 120,000 Hezbollah missiles, soon, most likely. :-(
Note that from Oct. 7 - late December, 2023, Hamas fired over 12,000 missiles into Israel. Most were intercepted. How much is the cost of an Israeli interceptor?
No, we take the money for the UN and give it to Israel.
True, as Ukraine's economy is harmed greatly, but, the Euro's are paying a LOT more of the latter. Overall, the Euros were at ~$133 billion total aid to Ukraine last Dec., and they just added another $50 billion. Many FReepers don't like to admit it, or find the true numbers, but Europe has far outspent us on Ukraine, and is even now slightly ahead on weapons, although the US still has by far the greatest capacity to supply weapons.
Israel's economy is in pretty rough shape too, just not as "shot up".
Europe was at >$133 billion euros in Dec. 2023.
