GOP Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers will not seek reelection in 2024

Washington GOP Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers on Thursday announced that she would not seek reelection in 2024, marking the latest such announcement for the GOP.

McMorris Rodgers currently chairs the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

"It’s been the honor and privilege of my life to represent the people of Eastern Washington in Congress. They inspire me every day," she said in a statement. "They are part of the strength and soul of America — the greatest experiment in self-governance the world has ever known. After much prayer and reflection, I’ve decided the time has come to serve them in new ways. I will not be running for re-election to the People’s House."

She went on to thank her family for the support she received throughout her time in Congress and vowed to fulfill her duties as committee chair through the end of her time in Congress.

Thank the Lord! She's totally worthless.

I always called her Cathy McMorris Hyphen.

CR Liberty score 60%

She's an old Boehner girl.

Good riddance!!

I understand why Freepers would be delighted to see some RINOs move on. But why do I have this feeling that trying to save these open GOP House seats may not be an easy task?

To me, it feels like a bunch of GOP are stepping down because they hope that Dems will replace them and hamstring President Trump with a Democrat Legislature.

It may not be an easy task. It may get worse before it gets better. But if you don’t tear out all the rotten drywall, termites remain.

See what happened in 2018 when about 40 GOP incumbents bailed on the country. Many seats flipped democrat and we lost the House as a result. The GOP caucus has been a sick mess for years.

While it is true that most of Washington state has gone the way of California, her district is on the eastern side of the state (far from Seattle) and has been safe Republican territory for decades. Some may recall that former Speaker of the House Tom Foley (a Democrat) was ousted from his seat by a Republican in this district many years ago.

Years?? More like decades- they never recovered from 2006. Their stupidity continually gets in the way even during the few brief moments of glory.

In actuality, there are very few open GOP seats which are in ANY danger of flipping. This one poses no danger at all.

“The GOP caucus has been a sick mess for years.”

And you can thank John Boehner (aka, “The Weeper”) and the insufferable Paul Ryan (aka, Eddie Munster) for much of that.

With Ronna gone, hopefully they can get a suitable primary candidate

"See what happened in 2018 when about 40 GOP incumbents bailed on the country. Many seats flipped democrat and we lost the House as a result."

This is nothing like 2018 as far as the effect of the Republican departures -- they almost unanimously will NOT be replaced by Democrats -- though the motivation behind the retirements may be similar (screw Trump).

Another One Bites the Dust.... But This is 2024, Not 2018 (from a month ago)

Good riddance, indeed.

Who’s a good replacement?

She certainly enriched herself while in office.

I agree. I get the feeling some are being paid off to step down to allow a Democrat to take their place. They can create the votes. All they need is the incumbent to move out to allow them to present the narrative that the districct or the state is ready for a “change”.

"...her district is on the eastern side of the state (far from Seattle) and has been safe Republican territory for decades'

Yet the newly installed mayor of Spokane is a flaming leftist democrat.

I celebrate the departure of every moderate and RINO politician.

I live in Washington state so the departure of Cathy McMorris Rodgers is extra sweet. The despicable Jaime Herrera Beutler (former representative of Washington state’s 3rd district) was a protege of McMorris Rodgers.

At least Kevin McCarthy isn’t around to kneecap any conservative who may want to run in that district.

The city of Spokane comprises less than 30% of the congressional district.

This House seat is perfectly safe and could actually be improved if some conservative actually wins. In any event SOME Republican is going to win it. This ain’t your granddaddy’s 5th District and Tom Foley is long gone.

This one poses no danger at all.

I live in her district and I would not be so optimistic. She almost her last election to Lisa Brown (D).

I give her credit for fiercely defending Fairchild AFB but other than that not much else.

If we could get a MAGA candidate and not some GOP poser out of Olympia this could be a great election.
