Amid international pressure to hold off on an advance on the town of Rafah, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced he had instructed the Israel Defense Forces to prepare to evacuate the civilians in the town before dismantling the Hamas battalions there.
Officials from the U.S., the UN, and Europe have publicly called on Israel to hold off operating in Rafah, fearing massive numbers of civilians could come to harm in the event of an Israeli operation there.
“It is impossible to achieve the goal of the war of eliminating Hamas by leaving four Hamas battalions in Rafah,” Netanyahu said in a statement on Friday evening.
“On the contrary, it is clear that intense activity in Rafah requires that civilians evacuate the areas of combat.”

Netanyahu could just state they are in solidarity with Egypt, and are following the Egyptian model for dealing with Hamas.
In 2014, after years of trouble, Egypt did not hold back. Almost 2000 Hamas tunnels were destroyed in a myriad of methods. The tunnels were shelled from the air, destroyed with controlled explosions on the ground, and flooded with sewage water or water pumped directly from the Mediterranean Sea.
Over the next three years, Egypt destroyed 3,000 residential buildings in Rafah near the border.
I do not remember any international condemnation of Egypt.
