Crowds of hundreds gathering to watch the grand departure of £3billion warship HMS Prince of Wales, ahead of the biggest NATO exercise since the Cold War, have been left bitterly disappointed after it failed to make it out of the harbour.
The 65,000-tonne Royal Navy aircraft carrier was primed and ready today to make the journey from Portsmouth Naval Base to Norway to take part in Exercise Steadfast Defender which is set to involve more than 40 ships.
This comes exactly a week on from the failed departure of the vessel's sister ship HMS Queen Elizabeth last weekend when an 'issue' was found with its starboard propellor coupling at the last minute.
Since then, the race has been on to replace Big Lizzie with the HMS Prince of Wales and before the big day scaffolding was removed from the aircraft carrier's flight deck.

The Royal Navy's rum tradition ended 31 July, 1970. I guess that just leaves sodomy.
Well the Daily Mail doesn’t know its own COUNTRY. Article says the Prince of Wales broke down off the “Isle of White”!!!!!???? (no such place). There IS an Isle of Wight a county and island in the UK on the course taken to Norway.
FWIW- they have no spell checkers.
And re-reading the article it starts saying HMS Queen Elizabeth had a “coupling” problem. Also? It isn’t clear at all.
If it was a coupling problem then one of the huge drive shafts may have become.... UN-coupled (a really big deal, depending on how or what the coupling section is designed).
Who knows the article is in reality fairly unclear, about which was which with the trouble or... maybe both had the same problem.
The Regime should want you to see this true history.

They have no editors who speak English.
Lol…
Heimdall was a negro as well.
I guess Odin vacationed in the Bahamas or Wakanda.
Variable pitch prop?
“Now, I could be wrong, but I can’t figure out how a “propeller” has a “coupling”.”
Admittedly, I do not know much about aircraft carriers. I road submarines. However, I am familiar with engines and propellers. Maybe the ignorant ‘reporter’ means, “U-Joint”?
I think they are referring to a “screw”. As in, Queen Elizabeth had a screw loose.
Broke down like the former Prince of Wales.
is it just me, or does the lens make her azz look big???
Taiwan makes a pretty good carrier anchored just off the mainland.
The Brits seem to have a lot of these issues.
IIRC, Princess Di was supposed to have had some coupling problems too?
So many things have to go right for a carrier to get out to sea and operate air squadrons in tempo and in all conditions. For all the woke spiritual cholera in the armed forces, kudos to the USN for keeping 11 carrier groups functional.
Are we going to have to save them too?
One of my favorite movies is Sink The Bismarck. There are many Bismarck movies. Sink The Bismarck is from a time when men were men, and strong women (character, not steroids) in dresses were celebrated.
I just may watch Sink The Bismarck today, instead of the Black National Disgrace Anthem (Stuper Bowl). After Sink The Bismarck, I just may watch another WWII classic, The Train with Burt Lancaster.
Bummer. But hey, there’s still hope. With the Islamization of the U.K., the citizens won’t get the rum, but they’ll still get sodomy and the lash. They’ll model their prison system after the Turks. It’s all good.
You can’t yell at anybody anymore.
They go to pieces and people complain that you’re mean.
I think I averaged one good ass-chewing a day as a Second Lieutenant.
You learned to take them and not make the same mistake again.
